I am going on an Alaskan cruise in May and called to book our dinner at the Pinnacle Grill for a certain day and time. I had to pay upfront but I was told that I would have to confirm the day & time when I get on the boat. Does that mean that they could give my reservation to someone else :(

I don't know if they could give it away but I know before our Eurodam cruise we and other couples were able to book for a certain date and time but they could not link us all together - we had to confirm and arrange a common table once on board.

It was no problem - I had everyone's cabin numbers and after we boarded stopped by at Tamarind and the Pinnacle Grill to arrange for us all to eat together. We even managed to get our Pinnacle Grill time slot changed a few days into the cruise.

We have run into this every time we have pre-booked the Pinnacle. I think they just ask you to confirm so they know you still want the space. Sometimes peoples plans can change.
Also, when you receive in cabin gifts they ask you to confirm that you received them as well. Just precaution to make sure everyone gets what they are suppose to.

Just go to the Pinnacle when you board and confirm the day and time. If they send you an email with the reservation, print it out and take it with you. I also brought a copy of the charge on my credit card bill.

They did send me an e-mail with my reservation of how much I paid but not day or time. Guess, I'll have to trust them that they will honor what I called in for , tks

I always call Ship Services to make our reservations for the Pinnacle.

I specify a specific date and time and ask them to send me an e-mail back confirming everything.

The e-mail I ge does state the date and time AND does ask us to reconfirm everything once we are on the ship.

This normal. They ask you to reconfirm just in case there has been an error made OR if there is a large party and they may need to ask you to change your date and time.

Just a quick follow up question- do you have to call HAL to make Pinnacle Grill reservations or can you do it online? I went online yesterday but couldn't find anywhere I could do that...

Also, we had a voucher for a free meal there with our trip but we booked through an online agency- will HAL know this or do we have to pay up front?

You can kinda do it on-line. You need to go the booked guest section of the web-site and click on the onboard gifts. If you print out the two page "printable gift order form" it has the option of selecting "ALT" as the item number, after that I put the number of guest and the time and the date you desire. Than you have to fill in the other info booking number etc. It worked the one time I did it this way. To be honest, it is such a strange way to do it, in the future I am calling guest services, it will take half the time ;)

I am not sure on the voucher, thats another reason I would call.

I believe that if you are within a certain number of days from traveling, you can book directly on line. I booked under gifts and sent myself a dinner at the Pinnacle, Drink Card, and Wine card. They charged my credit card and it's just another thing I don't have to worry about later.

Happy Sailing.... :)

Does the Pinnacle Grill normally sell out? Hubby & I want to wait until we're aboard to decide about going.

It may not sell out but the first 2 nights of a cruise seems to be the slowest (according to the culinary big kahuna on the Eurodam).

I just made reservations for dinners in the Tamarind and the Pinnacle online (Eurodam July cruise) and it was relatively simple. Went to onboard gifts, signed in, checked our names, then clicked on "Make Restaurant Reservations." Completed date, time, restaurant info, paid for the reservations by credit card, and printed the confirmation. Then also received an email confirmation of the restaurant reservations the same as I had received from ordering a wine card, choc. strawberries and bon voyage bottle of wine for the cabin.
