We've booked an SS cabin on the Oosterdam. Is the refrigerator empty, so I can put our own water and pop in it? Or is it really just a mini-bar, stuffed with their own expensive stuff? If the latter, can I take their stuff out?
Barbara
P.S. Does the "no liquor of your own" policy include BEER??

The refrigerator will be full but you can ask your cabin steward to empty it so that you can put your own water and pop in it.
Yes, the "no liquour" policy does include beer. You are only allowed to bring on wine and champagne.

It's always a good idea to check the HAL items in your fridge when you first arrive in your cabin. Several times we have been charged for items that must have been taken before we boarded the ship.
Also, if you drink a lot of soda, you might want to purchase the "unlimited soda" card. This card is not for cans of soda but is for fountain pours. It may be a little inconvenient but in the long run will save you lots of $$$.

Carol, they might be changing this. Vegas Jim recently was on the Prinsendam and his soda card was for 20 cans of soda. I know DH would prefer this, we will see what they offer on the Ryndam.

I remember when they used to do this on all of the ships. It used to be $14 for 10 coupons, each good for 1 can of soda. I much prefered it that way, my DH used to purchase that but would never buy the soda card for fountain soda....jean

Barbara.......Have you ever booked an SS before?? If not you are in for a delightful cruise!! When on the Zuiderdam in Sept. I simply had our room steward keep a large metal wine bucket full of ice to keep my bottled water, beer, etc. cold for me. He refilled it two times a day for me. (of course I would tip him for this convienience). Have fun!! Chef Nancy

This ice question or rather the responses are interesting to me. On each of my cruises the ice bucket has always had fresh ice in it when we returned to the room. I NEVER had to request it. Even on the recent Carnival Legend cruise, our room was ready and ice bucket full when we boarded the ship.
We were maybe the 50th people to board and frankly I was surprised our room was even ready let alone the ice bucket full.
In any case, you want your room steward to be one of the first people you meet. Slip him/her a 10 spot and tell him/her what you need for the week and it will happen. (This is in addition to the "customary tip" at the end of the cruise of course.) If you don't get the service you expect which is highly unlikely, simply go to the purser and adjust the tip.

Keith......The wine bucket I mentioned was in addition to the ice bucket that is in the room. The bucket I was speaking of was stainless steel and held 6 Coronas plus an additional 3-4 bottles of water. It was origionally a smaller one that held our Bon Voyage champagne but later on our steward gave us the much larger one. He was very happy to have BOTH filled 2 times a day. We never used the Honor bar and had very cold drinks to boot!! Nothing like having your beverages held in very cold ice water for drinking on the balcony!! Chef Nancy:D
