My hubby and I are going on the Prinsendam 28 day Amazon Cruise on Nov. 20. We decided we wanted to order 16 bottles of wine for the cruise (thats about 4 a week) to be used at dinner. We ordered the $18 Chardenney. We wanted one bottle for the Pinnicle the first night and the rest to be left with the wine stewart to be used when we wanted it. Boy... was that ever wrong. We would have had to put in 16 different orders and tell them what night we wanted the wine. Anyway - they are going to put all 16 bottles in our room. That really should take up the desk space. Oh- for those that do order (we called) they did send us a conformation by e-mail. Penny

Will you then have to pay a cork fee?

GRAMMYPL,
Is it to late to cancel your order?
My suggestion would be to order the wine at dinner on the night(s) you want it. We order wine most nights, but never in advance, but then we order different wines depending on the food, our mood, etc. What if you don't like the taste of your selection?

Is there some advantage in ordering 16 bottles of wine in advance?

My question, too. Why would you need/want to pre-order all that wine when you can simply order what you want each evening in the dining room. If you have wine left from the night before, they will hold the bottle for you and bring it back the next night.
Is there some advantage to preordering? We've never dreamed of doing that.
No.....there is no corkage fee for any wine which is ordered/pre-ordered aboard the ship. Corkage fees are only charged on wines you bring aboard with you.

Not trying to be argumentive, just curious. How do they know if the bottle was purchased on board. We always purchase wine for dinner and have never noticed any markings on the bottle, so I am curious how they know that you did not bring the bottle on board.

There is a promotional rate for pre-ordering wine. If you order the 16 bottles, and I believe there are other options for size of package, it can be handled by the wine steward on a daily basis.
Just tell them you want the wine for dinner and the steward will ask you every evening if you want a bottle: .
I think there are 2 or 3 choices of reds and whites. You don't have to take 16 bottles of the same variety. I don't know what happens if you want it delivered to your room, we don't have any experience with that. The price, I believe turned out to be 12-14 dollars a bottle.
There are also navigator packages of 4 or 8 bottles from 90 to 130 dollars approx. where you can choose your wine by name, and there's a discount if you go to the wine tasting and choose there.
At least this is true as of summer 2004.

All the steward does is check the computer. Is there record of a gift being delivered to your cabin or is there a record of you having purchased the wine through Ship Services? Or is there a record of you having purchased the package once you boarded?
IF all of the wine is delivered to OP's cabin, simply speak with your wine steward the first night and he will have it picked up and brought to the wine storage area for him to bring to you each evening at dinner. They are happy to collect any gift/pre-purchased bottles that are in the cabins.

Thanks S7S. I was wondering how that worked. It sounds like to me that I shouldn't bring the gift bottle into the dining room, but instead let the wine steward store the bottle for me.

"Colorado"....Entirely your choice. Either is fine. We have done it both ways.

We plan on talking to the wine steward and have him take all the wine and deliver it to dinner as needed. We like Chardonnay and thought the $18 (the price has gone up) (with tax and all other stuff) was a good price. We are not fussy wine drinkers. I just had to laugh that they want to deliver it all to our room. We did order it off the Gift Order Form - under wine and beverages and called it into Shore Services. Penny

I didn't know you could specifically order a kind of wine, i thought they just offered red and/or white on the big package.
Thanks for the info!

You've said you're not "fussy" wine drinkers, but 16 bottles of the same Chardonnay in one month seems a little mundane. Chardonnay comes in many different styles. I have my favorites, but I still enjoy trying all types from different regions of the world (or even different parts of California, for that matter). Have you considered mixing it up a bit? It might add something to your dining experience.

johnnycruise -- I am hoping that that they will let us try different Chardonnays.
grannynurse -- On the Gift Order Form they offer Chardonnay or Merlot (Brands based on stock) for $18 a bottle. You can get a 6 bottle package for $144 or Admiral (don't ask me what that is) 6 Bottle package for $207. They also have Champagne (Bon Voyage) at $18 a bottle. Penny
