Has anyone stayed in or have photos of the SB Deluxe Verandah Suites on the aft corners of the ship? Just curious.

Frank:
Is this where your cabin is? You will LOVE the aft corner verandas! We are also on an aft corner veranda on the Westerdam for our cruise. We have not been on the Westerdam after her butt lift, so I can't really give any first person info on that, but we were on her and her sister ships pre-retrofit. We usually were in Suite 5187, and have lots of pictures on our webshots album - search willowoodfarm in Webshots. But those pictures won't show the current configuration after the retrofit. We absolutely LOVE the corner verandas. The suite itself is smaller than one of the side suites, and you are farther from the Neptune, but to us it is made up for by the size of the veranda. I also know that now since the retrofit some floors are more covered and some have more sun. We picked our cabin from what we heard here on CC was a veranda with more sun. If you have any questions you can also e-mail me directly at willowood at earthlink dot com.
This time next week we'll be aboard!

Our tablemates were in 8147 last week. It was great. They invited us up for drinks and hors d'ouvres in the afternoons. The view of the wake is great. The husband had rigged up a hammock on the side portion of the verandah.
I would have loved to have the extra room, but think our starboard verandah was good enough for us.

We were in 8140, an aft SB corner suite on the Westerdam in November and I have pictures of the suite and the balcony, but I don't know how to post them here. I will email them to you if you like. You can email me at vbcurasi at aol dot com.

(BILLMD, I emailed this link to you a moment ago...)
The only negative we found of 8147 was that the Lido Deck above had lotsa people at the rail while we were transiting the Panama Canal. Their conversation could be clearly heard as they were only 9-10' above us ...
Otherwise, it was simply wonderful.
Enjoy!!

Between you and Jeff I have what I wanted. Wow...I believe I am going to enjoy this. I noted the room mini is so full that I would not be able to get my wine that I am bringing on board in to chill. I asked Holland to leave it empty as I am bringing a Maxi Bar! Thanks for the help.

You may need to ask your cabin steward to empty the fridge ... we did ... he did so after most people were settled in after boarding. The fridge items were stored in a pillowcase-like bag and stuffed into the round stool that sits at the desk area. I think they wanted to retain the contents in-room to make inventory control easier, and we had no problem with that....still had one round stool in the bath vanity available for dirty laundry.
You ARE going to enjoy it. I'm certain...

My tablemates were in this cabin last week. There main complaint was that trash, and cigarettes, etc. would fall down. Also, I think (personally) there is a bit of a privacy issue. The suites at the stern of 8 deck are quite open to people up on the Lido deck. If I wanted to talk to my tablemates, or vice versa, they would just call up, or I would just hang over the rail. Also they noticed quite a bit of dragging of deck chairs.

Let me agree with you and add this:
The morning of the Panama Canal transit we were up early, on our 8147 balcony, standing in awe of what we were seeing. There were oodles of people 9-10' above us on Lido Deck. A couple called down to chat, and I asked if Panama buns were ready yet. One said "Yes, and if you let me see your cabin I'll bring you a few".
So we agreed, and 5 minutes later a stranger was at our door with the promised Panama buns. We gave her a tour of the premises, she hung with us for a bit, and then she went back up to Lido Deck.
That couldn't happen on any deck other than Deck 8 ... lol ...
The rest of the cruise there were a few people to be seen above us on Lido Deck, but mainly when the ship was entering/leaving port.
We didn't have a problem with trash/cig butts on the verandah. One day we did get an extra daily newspaper sent down, though ....

Thanks for the best pic's yet of the Westerdam stern suites since the refit. :D I have the suite directly below the one you had, and had been looking all over the net for some good pictures. Now I'm even more excited to be sailing in just under two weeks.:)

You're very welcome, Thom. DH loves to take pics, and tries to do a thorough set of cabin photos before our luggage arrives and is all over the place...lol.
Enjoy Westerdam ... wish we were going with you...

Since this is talking about the Aft of the ship I was wondering if there is any difference of feeling the movement of the ship then being more toward the middle. Also is it nosier?

There is a link in my signature to a set of photos of Westerdam 4185, which is an SC, not an SB. It's smaller than the SBs inside, but has a similar layout, and (I think) a bigger veranda. These photos were taken in November 2007, after the Westerdam's retrofit.
