Um...on our last two cruises (within a month of each other) there were people with service dogs. I think it's wonderful they are able to enjoy vacations, but I have, um, a question. Um...how do I delicately ask:o....um, well you know what I'm going to ask! Don't make me ask; just please answer my question.:(

I know of one case where there was a "litter box" set up on a stern crew-only deck. I don't know who gets the job of cleaning it, or what they do with it! :D

Ahh --- maybe this is the answer you are looking for?
The crew sets up a box with grass in it on one of the lower decks -- in a corner -- out of the way of the passengers. The crew is in charge of cleaning it daily.

There is a wood box with grass and it's usually located on the Prom deck forward. As many times as I've passed the doggie box - it has always been clean. I expect the crew cleans it up immediately.

You are wonderful people! I thank you so much for a) knowing what I wanted to know; and b) being so prompt. Of course, that all makes sense. But I did give it a good deal of thought. I suppose I have much too much free time on my hands. Again, thank you!!!

There is a great thread on the cruising with a disability board all about cruising with a service dog.

I would guess that having "doggie duty" is not half as bad as having to clean up after some human passengers!

I've encountered people with guide dogs on a number of cruises -- and that is exactly where I've seen the box. And like you, I've always seen it clean, so I believe the crew is very diligent!

Specially when leaving ports heavy into Carlos & Chalires -- like Cozumel:D

Thinking the same thing, Jim. Trust me, being in the inn business, it's often a lot easier to clean after kiddie guests and our own dogs than some of our guests!

We had a lady near us at dinner last year with a large service dog. He sat under her table during dinner and never made a sound!

He sat under her table during dinner and never made a sound! These animals are extremely well-trained! Maybe some parents should send their kids to the trainers! (Oops! I gave my fingers free rein of the keyboard again!)

Now here's fodder for a whole new thread!!! Can they be caged, too?

Haven't heard of service dogs being caged on cruise ships. They wouldn'd be able to do their very impressive work when caged
