Since we will be in the Westerdam in the fall, I was wondering if HAL has done anything to expand the evenings entertainment options beyond the usual production show. When we were last on HAL in 2005, there was the main show (twice each night) but little else. OK, maybe a piano player in a bar, but that was it.

Long before 2005 there was also dancing to live music in the Ocean Bar, and lite-classical music in the Explorers Lounge. And no "maybe" about the piano player in the Piano Bar---that's also a definite. None of that has changed.
On the Vista ships and the E-dam there's also the Northern Lights disco, and there is quiet, backround piano music in the Crow's Nest. The S- and R-class ships have the disco in the Crow's Nest.

Also a near first run movie in the Culinary Arts Center each night with fresh popcorn

This has been brought up a lot -- we have attended a couple of Q & A sessions and some of the TA's mentioned that their clients complained that there was very little to do in the evening after dinner -- especially since most of them didn't like to gamble.
We did notice on our recent Noordam cruises that there was a trivia game in the Piano Bar around 9:30 -- some movies offered in the Hudson Room -- games in the Queen's Lounge.
So maybe HAL is listening.
