Can anyone tell me, if the Maasdam will dock right downtown in St. Thomas or does one need to taxi to tourist area?

Go to www.********** for the cruise ship docking schedule. It's usually updated a month in advance, as only Nov 04 is the last month shown right now.
That site is also very good for other island info.

Zil,
The ships do not dock in down town Charlotte Amalie. You can dock at either Havensight, Crown Bay, or tender from the inner harbor, and on rare occasions tender from the deep outer harbor.
If you dock at Crown Bay you need to take a cab.
If you dock at Havensight, most people take a cab. A handful walk but it is a long walk.
If you anchor, the tenders will take you right into town.
