I emailed my TA to ask about HMC and the cabanas, and the following is what she responded. Now we just have to hope for good weather! :D
Dee
Dear Dee,
I just got off the phone with HAL and they said everything is up and running and all is fine now. Yes the island was hit but they have cleaned up and you are set for the orange cabana .
Thanks so much and have a great trip.

I hope she is correct, I really don't remember seeing the orange one but I could have missed something. BUT, we saw many and one foundation so if that is all they have to fix, I would imagine if Habitat for Humanity can build a house in a week, they can re-build a cabana in a day!

Looking forward to meeting you!! Since I know what you look like, I will definitely find you!!!! I have chosen all my clothes and they are in the guest bedroom ready for me to pack.
I've been to the bank, and now all I have to do is wait! Looking forward to a great trip!

I hope so, also, Gretchen. When I saw your post about your not seeing the orange cabana, I thought I would aggravate my TA one more time and get her to check. Let's hope HAL is giving the correct information. If they aren't, it will not ruin my vacation. It takes a whole lot to ruin a vacation for me....I just roll with the punches. And as long as I have a mat to float on, I will be a happy camper!

You are so welcome, Sage. It will be wonderful sailing in December when it is so cold in the states and so wonderfully warm in the Caribbean! I'll check out the taupe cabana and give you a report when I return.

I hope you can visit our thread on the Roll Call boards if you haven't already. We're planning a get=together for CCers on Monday at 4:00 in the Sports Bar to meet each other in person.
We're getting really close!:D

Thanks so much, and I will try to get there. I have never had much luck with being free for the CC meetings on other trips since I travel with others who don't use the boards, but I will definitely try. It will be fun putting faces with names!

Sail, I want to come, too!!!:o ... with you and Cruisin' Nana;) . I'm a cruisin' grandma myself because the the "other mom" got Nana.
As far as the cabanas, I've called HAL more times than I dare mention about the cabanas and they have assured me each time that all will be well, that everything is being put back together. Don't forget it's still another 2 weeks (almost) before we're actually on Half Moon Cay. So we will hope!!!
Besides, Half Moon Cay with or without a cabana is a joy. I just couldn't stay as long because I really try to stay out of the sun for long periods.

Revneal has posted pictures of his cruise on the Zaandam through the Panama Canal and they include pictures of HMC. The vegetation took a hit, but all of the structures look intact.

How does one rent one of the cabanas and how much do they cost? I do like a bit of shade. Also....maybe there are just plain old sun umbrellas to rent? That would work too.

Jeff! I think you messaged me about cabins in the aft/side of the Millennium a bit back. I had 6144 & I think you had 6143....is that you?
Anyway...cabanas are a very nice thing to rent on HMC. They cost $219.00 now.....when I reserved last Nov. they were $150, then this spring I paid $179.00.......now I hear it is $219. They are three sided and have air conditioning, loungers with misters, table/chairs, shower, snacks/soda was provided. Cabana guys bring your drinks and lunch. Ther are a few other perks that go along....floats, snorkel equip. I think (we bring our own).
If you are the Jeff I remember....the verandah on the Millie was just the best! I liked that cruise and the ship. We were lucky to have seen a whale while out sunning on the balcony. It was the highlight of the whole cruise. The whale surfaced and "belly flopped" then he came up again and just flapped his tail up and down. What a huge splash they make. Just seeing how large they are was awesome. We stayed out the whole day looking for another appearance, but there were no more.

The cabanas can be rented online on HAL's shore excursion page.

One thing one always must consider when talking of HMC is that fact that sometimes the swells in the ocean are considerable and if the Master believes it would be dangerous for many people to go into the tenders to get people over to the Island, he might well pass up the stop. I have seen it happen, much to the disgust of some, but the Captain has to do what he thinks is best in terms of PAX safety.

You are absolutely correct. But please do not let us forget about CREW safety. Those sailors have to help us into the tenders and some pax with mobility problems (particularly if they are large folks) can be hard for them to assist. And, remember they have to load all of the necesary supplies for the bars/lunch/restroom etc NoOne wants to see any injuries to ANYONE.
We have been on ships on bright, sunny gorgeous days when we were turned away from HMC. The seas were rough and we could see the tide hitting the rocks with loads of white spray.....It simply was too dangerous to drop tenders so regretfully we waved goodbye and sailed on by.

That was me Margaret! Yes, we did have 6143 on the Millie once. Aren't they a nice cabin and balcony? Nice and quiet back there in the "high rent" district too. Glad they tolerate us slum-dwelling cat 1 people lol! Very nice to hear about your whale sighting!
Thanks for the cabana info....probably too pricey for me by myself! Oh well. Do you remember if they rented plain old umbrellas? Guess I should mosey over to the HAL web site to look at the shore excursion stuff once I book.

No umbrellas, but clamshells, which shade 2 lounge chairs. I think they are $9 for the day...
