Casino Question re: Money...Help!

DH asked me to check this out and I'm having such a time. I called HAL and got an answer but he came back with another question. This is quite typical;) .

In the past, DH has always brought a bunch of cash onboard to use in the casino. This time he doesn't want to do that. So can he go to the Casino and essentially say he wants (for example) $50 and they will give him money or tokens or whatever it is and place that amount on his shipboard account?

Heather, you can do that, however you will be charged a 3% surcharge. I checked on our Oct. cruise on the Zuiderdam. Pretty much it just covers the fees they get charged by the credit card companies.

Yes, he can do that but there is a 3% surcharge. It is added to your shipboard account.

It's convenient to bring plenty of Traveler's Checks to be cashed at the Purser's office or the casino. That way DH hasn't the faintest idea how much is being spent at the tables and video polka machines. ;-)

Besides Traveler's check's/card, you can always pre-order Casino chips. I always send my Dad some chips for Roulette as a Bon Voyage present. The credit is awaiting him in his cabin when my parent's arrive in their cabin.

The best way to get casino cash without paying the 3% charge is to order the amount you want from the gift order form. You'll get a letter to bring to the cashier's cage. A friend ordered $5,000 worth last summer. Worked like a charm and no 3% surcharge.

We're leaving this coming Sunday ... so I think it's too late for ordering the chips? Great idea, though ... have to remember for next time.

For Mickey: When you pre-order Chips can you change them for tokens for the slots? Duh?? Also will it be charged to your shipboard account or immediately to your credit card? Never done this or even heard of it.

All pre-orders are charged to your credit card immediately - you don't have a shipboard account until you board the ship.

It is a wonderful idea to take advantage of the gift order form. Casino chips, Pinnacle Grill, Liquor for the cabin, wine packages. Gifts for adults and children as well as spa packages.

I often pre pay an onboard credit so that I don't have to use my credit card for the ship expenses. Particularly if we are sailing in Europe. I save my credit card for post cruise hotel stays.

I like to budget my onboard expenses as I have been known to get carried away in the casino and/or spa.
