OMG! I'm soo excited about this! I hope its on the 4 day because thats what we're booked on. I've wondered why they don't just do broadway shows on board?? but I didn't think about the time issue. actually, we normally skip the shows because I enjoy the format of broadway shows so much more!!

I remeber NCL doing "Crazy for You" in an 80-90 minute format - The songs were done at the fastest possible tempo and the script was trimmed down to the bare bones to tell the story. Even so it was heads above the normal cruise shows I have seen since.

Kudos to RCCL for giving Hairspray a showing! I think as a one-act 90 minute production it could work nicely!

"The musical will be the first actual Broadway show staged by Royal Caribbean (http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/cruiseline.cfm?CruiseLineID=32), as well as the only legitimate Broadway production currently being offered at sea."

It may be RCCI's first B'way production, but the second half of that sentence is wrong.

A "Broadway production" of SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE in addition to the Off Bway production of AND THE WORLD GOES ROUND and SHOUT! THE MOD MUSICAL are all currently running in rotating repertory aboard the NCL JADE and have been doing so since March of 2008.

IF RCCI would like to define a "Broadway production" as being a 'book' musical then they might be able to squeak through with a half-truth in their press materials. But if they are using the generic term 'Broadway' as their measuring stick, that portion of their press release is a patently false.

Good news! I have been writing "Broadway show" on my end-of-cruise RCCL comment sheet for twenty years. Don't shorten the show--perform it in two or three acts over two or three nights. High schools and colleges put on great musicals--RCCL can also. NCL Norway Broadway productions were always SRO.

I remember way back when I took a cruise on the Dreamward (now Norwegian Dream) they
had Dreamgirls as a show. I happened to see it on broadway years before. They hacked the
show to death, it was bad. I just hope that Hairspray is the real musical, not a hacked up
version.

Any bets on whether they charge for this 'special' show? I'd guess they'd try to get $30-$60 bucks a head. The theater is not that big and it will cost a fortune to purchase the production rights.

Just a guess but I wouldn't expect this to mean a higher value on RCCL.. though a great option.
