We always used to book on the very top deck on our cruises. This is our first time on a low deck. It's an inside cabin (Number K606). How do you think they compare to balcony rooms, sound level, comfort, air quality, are you claustrophobic? Please no negative remarks. I'm looking for anything positive.

Thank you

Wouldn't commenting about it being claustrophobic or the air being stale be negative...?

(Never stayed in an inside myself).

To be honest I've never had a balcony room but I don't mind the inside rooms one bit. I tend to be a bit clastrophobic but the insides don't bother me. Also, I like being on a lower deck....seems to be easier access to things I enjoy. On my last cruise on Princess I was up on a higher deck which I didn't enjoy as much as being on the lower.

I find your comment about the negative remarks kind of funny. I would personally like to hear both sides.....but that's just me:).

It's a nice mid-ship location on a good deck. It should be quiet there, and smooth if there are rough seas.
The cabin itself is a good size, with a generous shower. There's plenty of drawer space, with two ample closets. There's an additional closet with shelving, the safe, and some hanging room for short things.
It's a short hop to the outside decks on Lower Promenade---with excellent views.

If you want to see out, just turn the TV on to the forward or aft camera views. Air is fine, unless someone a few decks up decides to leave their balcony door open and cuts off your A/C.

I have cruised in a 'foul ball' cabin (low and inside) on the Ryndam before and it was perfectly enjoyable.

1) There will be a painting and/or curtains where the window should be, and it actually does a decent job of giving the illusion that you could look out if you wanted to. I did not feel claustrophobic.

2) The inside cabin was the quietest and darkest one I have ever cruised in, making it great for sleeping.

3) You will feel more motion on the upper decks than you will low and inside, so the chances of seasickness are reduced.

Tip 1: When I say dark, I mean pitch black dark. You may want a small flashlight to find the bathroom in the middle of the night, or you can leave the light in there on, but the door closed. This will give you enough light to find your way w/o tripping.

Tip 2: Do not rely on light to help you wake up in the morning. If you have to be up at a certain time for breakfast, an excursion, whatever, set an alarm. The darkness will fool your body into oversleeping.

We were on the Volendam last summer for 14 days in an inside cabin and loved it. We did not think twice about booking an inside cabin again and will be on the Ryndam July 31st in a category K cabin, midship on the main deck. If everyone were as happy with an inside cabin as we are there wouldn't be a big price difference between inside and outside cabins, so it would be foolish to say they are the same. For my family, it works. Try it once and decide for yourself.

After 2 or 3 cruises on a lower deck we were upgraded to a top deck, ever since then we have said no upgrades for a higher deck.

Insides aren't really comparable to balcony cabins, especially on HAL's R and S class ships where "balconies" are 292sft minisuites.
http://www.hollandamerica.com/cruise-vacation-onboard/Ryndam

They are, however, very similar to ocean views:
Insides on HAL are only slightly smaller, 186sft vs 197sft, than OVs.
Bring a night light, StickNClicks for example, and place it in the head. Add a travel clock that will stay illuminated, and you're good to go.

I frequently book inside cabins, and I especially love those found on the Lower Promenade deck or the Main deck due to their close proximity to the ship's largest verandah. :) K606 is found on the port side just a little forward from midship, so you'll be not too far from from the forward stairs/elevator.

Inside cabins on HAL -- on the S and R ships -- are a very nice size, and the bathroom (as Ruth says) is especially nice with a good sized shower and plenty of counter space. Yes, the cabin can be dark Dark DARK when the lights are out. One usually gets a little light in under the outside door, but not always (sometimes the seal is better than others). If the dark concerns you, I suggest leaving the TV dialed to the front of the ship channel, and leave it on all night. The light blue glow will serve as a nightlight for you to be able to see to get around, and when the sun comes up in the morning you'll know it. That's what I do. I've spent close to 100 days in inside cabins (about half my cruise history) and will book insides again when the opportunity arises. Indeed, I'm booked in an inside J on the Rotterdam for this fall (18 days transatlantic crossing from Rome to Fort Lauderdale).

When will you be aboard the Ryndam? My mother and I will be boarding her in Vancouver on May 8.

On the Vistas the Large Inside Js on Main Deck just forward of the midships elevators are all larger than the outside Oceanview cabins. :) They're over 200sft. They're among the best finds for inside cabin lovers in the fleet. Just don't get them confused with the closet-sized Js on the upper decks.

Photos of an large inside cabin (an MM) on an R-class ships. Your K category on the Ryndam will be the same size/configuration and will look nearly the same.

We were in K606 last year and it is just like the pictures Rev. Neal posted except flipped left to right. It was very nice. Very quiet and little movement. We just left a light on in the bath room for a night light as was suggested. Just one flight up and you were on the outside deck level. Easy access to the stairs for the Lido. We spent most of the time on deck or in the Crows Nest.
Relax and enjoy. Roly

Excellent pictures!

We started out cruising in inside cabins but my husband preferred them a lot more than I did. I do find them claustrophobic and hate not having natural light to wake up to, but that's just me. Other people are just fine with them. For me, once we got a taste of outside and balcony cabin there was no going back. I think the inside cabins are perfectly comfortable and not that much different in size than an outside cabin. I just hate the feeling that I am in a box with no natural light, that's all.

We just got off the Ryndam yesterday and had a fantastic time on the ship. Hard to believe someone else is in "my" cabin right now...

we had an inside deck on ryndam on the lower promenade deck and it was a great location, right near the atrium, front desk was one deck up , up some stairs, and right outside was the outside walk around deck,
i loved it, best spot i think, we booked right midship , so we were near alot,

we were in cabins 340 & 342
except the deck plans stated there was a launderette right there, and there wasnt but oh well, great location if i had to do it again ..

Hey Rev.. Thanks for the pictures .. may i ask a question and see if you know the correct answer?
We will be sailing the Rotterdam in November .. and will be our first time back on this line in over 7 years.. I booked us a CAT I inside on navigation Deck.. are those inside cabins on the deck just a slight larger ??

can you confirm?

We had inside rooms on the Navigation deck on the Ryndam in Alaska last September-029 and 031-I think. My dad was in the room next to the Neptune Lounge. Our stewards said our rooms were slightly bigger. They looked like the pictures that Rev. Neal had. There were a few differences though. In the bathroom I think we actually had a shelf going across the length of the mirror to hold our bathroom items. Also, we had a shorter couch, and end table in the corner, and a chair in the area that had a long couch in the picture. Also, we had more switches at the headboard for individual lights over our heads while we slept. I think everything else looks the same. Our stewards told us they gave us extra service since we were on the Navigation deck. We loved it!!!

I actually found out today that those cabins are indeed larger 229 sq ft for the ones on the Rotterdam so I am very pleased...
