While in Long Beach we would like to take the Queen Mary ghost tour. We can't stay at the Queen Mary - it is all booked up the weekend we are going (Feb 12). I can't tell from the Queen Mary web site if they offer a guided ghost tour or just a general ships tour.

We are considering taking a tour on Sunday morning prior to leaving on the cruise.

Has anyone done this or does anyone have any info? I saw on their web site that it is $23.00 pp so I want to make sure it is worth it!

Thanks for any and all help you can give.

It's campy and fun and you will enjoy it. I don't remember what we paid, I don't recall it being real expensive, maybe ask if they have a discount like AAA, perhaps.

The $23 is for admission onto Queen Mary and Ghosts and Legends, not a bad deal. We usually go on Sundays and have brunch, you don't have to pay admission onto the ship when you do that. I think our tour was cheaper because we purchased it separately from the ship admission.

One other good thing about the Ghost Tour is that you get to see some areas of the ship you can't see via the self guided tour like the indoor pool and some of the other below deck areas.

I agree, it's very campy, but worth it if you want to see more of a great ship.

So do the tours run at certain times? The web site is very vague.

Thanks for your help.

If you are cursing with Carnival and do early check in at the Queen Mary I heard you can get the tour for something like $8.00 to $10.00 each. You might want to look into this. If not with Carnival call Queen Mary and let them know you are cursing and they may give you the same deal.

Thanks for the advice! I was just looking on the Queen Mary web site again and the brunch is $32.00 pp. That might be good. Lots of options to consider!

Last weekend we bought General Admission ( you can print out Discount coupon from Queen Mary website for $5) and there's also a better coupon in a give away Long Beach book. That includes Ghosts and Legends show and self guided tour. Check with the Carnival check-in desk for other discounts.

Ghosts and Legends shows started at quarter after each hour. It was great!!!!!!!

Queen Mary is truly a national treasure. Lovely.

How long does it take to do the tour??? Might be fun to do the day before we leave. How long will it take to drive from San Pedro Sheraton to the QM?? (on a Saturday)

The Ghosts and Legends show was about an hour. You walk around, not seated in a theater. Special effects and commentary very good - fun.

For the self guided tour, you could do it in an hour, or maybe 2, depending on how much time you took to look at exhibits, artifacts, etc.

We were there with our daughter at her travel agent convention, so they showed us a 3 bedroom suite, and a room. How wonderful they were. Some original furniture, etc. and some restorations. Loved it.

Sorry, can't help with drive from San Pedro. L.A. traffic is unpredictable, you know. Allow time.

Emi, I just wanted to tell you that I love Kailua-Kona. This year is the first year we did not make it to Kailua-Kona in 5 years. I would love to live there. When we land in Kona and walk off the plane we always feel we have come home:)

Lisa: Funny, isn't it?? I never knew where "home" was until I moved here (and moved away for 10 months). Finally, I'm home...*smile*

Your hotel is only 7 miles away from the Queen Mary. I hope you have a wonderful cruise, I always enjoy your posts. I, too would love to live in Hawaii, I've not spent much time where you live, but I will someday. My husbands best friend lives on Oahu, out at the Ko Olina Marina, they were the first full time residents at the marina, it is heaven there.

Thanks Kathy! I can't believe it - I'm out the door! Talk to ya all when I get back. Hope I have time for the QM. I got married on her in 1976...oh my!!

I live in L.A. and eat at the brunch a couple of times a year. It is in the original first class dining room with 20 ft ceilings. The food is excellent and extremely varied with several serving stations. There is even a separate serving station for children.

It is about 15 minutes from the Sheraton to the Queen Mary by way of the Vincent Thomas bridge. These are local roads and not freeways and the traffic very seldom backs up unless there is truck traffic at the Long Beach port exits, which is seldom. Saturday should be wide open.

Because we are booked on the Paradise on the next day the QM gave us a discount on our room the night before. I am really looking forward to that.

We would like to stay on the Queen Mary. However, we will be out in Long Beach on Valentine's Day weekend. The Queen Mary has been booked for that Saturday night since before Labor Day. Oh well!
