We are heading to Alaska next month - Inside Passage from Vancouver on the Zuiderdam. We booked a VF guarantee and were quite surprised when we were assigned our cabin about month ago VA7124 (on the Rotterdam deck) Now HAL is offering an upgrade for $209 CDN pp for an SS - SZ. Should we do it? We booked the trip to commemmorate our 25th wedding anniversary.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We have cruised in a VA cabin (and enjoyed it) and an SS cabin (enjoyed it more). We would go for a deal like that for the price they are offering. The SS-SZ cabins are very nice, very comfortable and offer a lot more room, IMO.

Given that it is your anniversary, and that in reality HAL is asking a total of $418 to go from a VF cabin fare to an SS-SZ cabin, I would sure consider going for it, but that is just me.

But, only you can decide if it is worth it. Whatever your decision, I wish you a great cruise! :)

If you can afford it, go for it! It will be a very nice experience, especially with the great Alaska scenery outside your balcony! One word of caution; you do it once, you just might find yourself hooked on that type of cabin!;)
