Hello Everyone!
We received our doc yesterday and to my surprise, it listed 1 informal night and 4 casual nights. This was very suprising since I've read so much about formal nights on HAL. Our cruise is on 12/18 and 5 days to Bahamas. Is that why there is no formal night? Because it's only 5 days and not 7?
Also, what would attire be on informal? Would red cocktail dress work?
I bought a long, black formal dress that I'm taking back today. I really didn't want to be underdressed but now don't think a long, black formal on 4 casual nights would really fit in.
Any opinions out there on casual night attire? Are jeans allowed?
Anyone else been on a informal and casual only cruise? What did most people wear? Did some dress up regardless?
Thanks!

Your red cocktail dress will be wonderful for Informal Night.
I'm surprised they do not have one formal night but perhaps with all the grumbling about 'packing light' they may have figured many folks would not bring their formal wear for only one wearing. (On a seven day cruise there are two formal nights.)
No jeans are ever allowed in the dining room in the evening. For Casual nights, you may wish to think about wearing nice slacks with a pretty top or pretty slacks outfits. Some of the ladies like the long, cotton/rayon tank dresses with pretty prints. If you are familiar with the brands, think Fresh Produce or Jam's World type dresses. The prints are so pretty in the Caribbean.

Actually there were some people in jeans in the dining room,I only saw one person turned away because he tried to enter in shorts he claimed they were dress shorts .They sent him out.It was strange we did a B2B and on the western we had 1 formal and on the eastern we had 2 formal nights. TOM

There were jeans in the dining room in the evening on the Maasdam this summer.

That doesn't make it right.
When you're in play clothes all day it should't be extraordinary to come in, wash up, and put on something a bit dressier for the evening.

Oh, absolutely not, Ruth. I am one of the traditionalists. We kept our mouths shut, but in retrospect wish we had said something. If people don't complain, HAL will think it's condoned.

We have a 5-day on the Westerdam coming up. Boy will the DH be relieved if we don't have a formal night. I'm going to hold off on buying clothes until I see if we do.
Not quite time for the doc dance...

The only "Formal Shorts" are worn with a Navy Blazer, White Dress Shirt, Club Tie, Kneesocks and Wingtips in Bermuda.

Thanks S7S! I'll keep the cocktail dress and hopefully I won't be overdressed on informal night.

Lakesidedreamer -
Our trip sounds just like yours - Nassau, HMC, day at sea, and Key West. You can tell us all about it when you get back, and what shore excursions you liked.
