Ruth C - since you have been on Prinsendam would appreciate your advice on which dinner seating to choose. We will be in the Black Sea - l4 days - 4 sea days and l0 port days (one overnight in Instanbul). Being newbies I requested early sitting (not sure my DH could last until 8pm). Now I'm not sure of the decision. Would you recommend Anytime or late seating - to ensure there is no rush? Majority of sailway times are 5PM. I was not sure if the Pinsendam being a smaller ship was a factor...Thoughts anyone?

I hope you get a variety of opinions, so you can make the best decision for you.
I always choose late, fixed seating as that is what is best for me. I like being able to return from port, rest, clean up, and still have a relaxing evening. But, I also like to stay up late. Waiting for 8:00 has never been a problem! A late afternoon snack (ok, ice cream cone) takes care of that! :D
This itinerary is quite port-intensive, and you might be getting up early, and consequently retiring early. You might want more flexibility.
Consider how you expect your days to go. Will you be doing full day tours, half day, alternating? Will you want to grab something in the Lido, and collapse? Or will you want to unwind with a pleasant dinner. Do you enjoy having the same table companions every night? Or would you prefer taking your chances each day?
There's lots of things to consider.
If you do choose fixed seating, don't feel required to show up every night. But if you aren't planning to go to the dining room, please let your tablemates know not to wait for you.
I will say that when I was on the Prinsendam there was no open seating option. I understand that the larger dining room is now mixed with the two components of AYW---fixed and open.
Good luck with your decision. I think whatever you decide will work out. You will have a memorable cruise on The Elegant Explorer, and you won't go hungry. Believe it.

Ahoy!
Geez, I'm exhausted just envisioning 10 ports of call days and only 4 sea days on a 14 day sail. But then again that's just me.
None-the-less the "Explorer" is a wonderful ship with four dining options as far as I know. They are:
1. Aft DR : An "As you Wish" section and a "Fixed" table is available (early / late) to date.
2. Forward DR: Fixed tables (early / late): ('We' prefer a late, main fixed, table for two, center bulkhead or window seating).
3. The Lido P.M. DR: An "As you Wish" buffet of sorts.
4. Room Service (ordering after six and within the DR time limits affords you pretty much the full evening menu of the day without dressing up and, well, 'relaxation' of the moment).
You just need to decide if you would prefer a larger table at a cetain seating, maybe an intimate table for two to enjoy the moment or a "play it by ear" following an "exhausting day" of touring. There is no 'right or wrong'.
Be sure to enjoy the PG at least one night (I would suggest a sea day when your more relaxed; your call).
Your going to have a wonderful cruise!
Enjoy!
Bon Voyage & Good Health!
Bob:)
