I know, I know it's early...but do you think we have a chance of making this flight out of FLL after our Zuiderdam cruise?? Our other choices aren't working out! We will also be in an 'S' Suite, doesn't that mean we can get off first?? Comments..advice?? Thanks!

I wouldn't do it. With the new regulations and needing to be at the airport at least 1 1/2 hours (8:45) before a flight. I don't think it will work. Also, there might be a delay on the debarkation of the ship. Customs doesn't always go as planned. Go ahead and take the later flight. Enjoy your time on the ship in the morning and enjoy Ft. Lauderdale until you need to go to the airport. If you do miss your flight who knows when you will be able to get on another flight since they will be booked with cruise passengers.

Under no circumstances would I risk it.

What if the ship is delayed coming in to port?
What if someone doesn't show up for immigration/pay the bill?
What if there's a delay moving the luggage off the ship?
What if there's so many passengers from so many other ships you can't check in quickly at the airport?
What if...? What if...?

What if you do make your flight? Is the anxiety worth it?

While it is theoretically possible, I personally would not go with that early a flight. Your priority disembarkation will not mean anything if just one person fails to present themselves to immigration when they're supposed to. The ship will not be cleared until everyone has checked in. There are times the ship is left waiting while PA annoucements are made repeatedly calling for Mr. and Mrs. So-and-So from Cabin XXX. Even if the ship clears in an expeditious manner, if the port is full of cruise ships then the TSA lines at the airport will be long. (Last February we were in the TSA line for 50 minutes.) IMO, it would be sad to end a relaxing week-long cruise with the emotional stress of making an early flight.

I would not dream of booking such an early flight. The likelihood of you getting off the ship; clearing Immigration and Customs; finding your luggage at the dock and being at the airport early enough to check in; check you bags and clear security are very small. The odds are way against you IMO Good luck.

I agree! Thanks to all for the comments. I went ahead and booked the later flight. No reason to have to worry about it! Thanks again!!

We're going on our first cruise next month (yea!)

I booked a 6:45 flight from Ft Lauderdale back home. I figure that should leave us plenty of time to get off the ship and to the airport. I also have us flying in the afternoon of the day before the cruise leaves, so we'd have time to pick up anything we forgot.

And even with that, my husband is still worried we won't get to the airport early enough going home.

Not only will you get to the airport in plenty of time, you will have time to take a tour of FLL or just venture out on your own via taxi. You might want to look into an airboat tour of the Everglades.

mmacdcc-

Definitely book the everglades airboat tour once you're on the ship. Tell your Dh you will be one if the first off the ship, your luggage will be handled for you through to the airport and you will be delivered there with way more time than you'll need. You could even take a taxi tour in addition. Have fun!
