Today I booked cabin GG4100 obstructed view for the January 4,2010 sailing on the Noordam, and I was wondering if anyone else has stayed in this room?? When I was looking at the deck plans it didnt look like it was blocked at all, but the discription says it is. My big thing is to have light in the room, but it would be nice if we could see the weather and maybe some water. Has anyone been there done that??:)

I was in a similar cabin on starboard on my first Noordam cruise.
You'll have wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows, letting in lots of light. You'll also be able to see some sky, check the weather, and see a lifeboat directly in front of you.
There's a cat-walk on the other side of the glass, and you may spot workmen out there once in a while.

Friends were in 4100 on the Oosterdam. Although the deck plan looks like it is not fully obstructed, it had the big tender in front of it. it was totally blocking any view. Change cabins or pay a little bit more for partially obstructed. it was a really bad view and our friends were miserable.
The Oosterdam and the Nordam are the same layouts.

I think San diego sue is right. Although this is the starboard view, you would be the fifth stateroom back from the center elevators: http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2719689280015776840ZXUqvd (look at the far left). While the deck plans show you between two lifeboats, it looks like you are right behind the rear of the lifeboat itself.

Thetender never was put in the water the whole time, so even when there was tendering there was never a view. Don't go by the deck plan drawing, not accurate. Our travel agent told our friends it was completely obstructed but he looked at the deck plan and didn't believe her. The large tenders are not like the lifeboats, they cover the complete view. The only view they had was of the inside of the tender (the seats).

The only view they had was of the inside of the tender (the seats). If you want to find a partially and not totally, obstructed view, seek out photos from inside the staterooms themselves OR look at exterior photos like the one I referenced above. There are many deck 4 rooms that clearly have only a partially obstructed view that would suit the OP's needs. For example, Stateroom G4101 (the sixth stateroom aft of the elevators; all the way to the left) has a partially obstructed view through two lifeboat winches. Stateroom G4091 (the first stateroom just aft of the elevators (i.e. just to the left of the elevators) is only half obstructed vertically by a service platform! You can easily see ocean and sky! Stateroom H4089, to the right or forward of the elevators, has a partially obstructed view skyward but looks like it has no water view due to the lifeboat.
As Sandiego Sue said, don't rely on the deck plans to make decisions. According to HAL: "Stateroom category G has a partial sea view; categories GG, H, and HH have fully obstructed views", and for the most part that's accurate. Although even the Cat H rooms have some light (and some more than others so consider these if you do your homework on specific cabins using photos!), if you really want a good partial view of sky and sea, then it's best to book a Cat G room. Good luck!

Anyone have experience or pictures of G4071 on Eurodam? Deck plans show it between lifeboats...accurate or not?

Anyone have experience or pictures of G4071 on Eurodam? Deck plans show it between lifeboats...accurate or not?:confused:In this photo I dug up, the ninth cabin forward (right) of the elevator shaft is G4079, between the lifeboat winches: http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2973479280015776840DljkSm. Your cabin is not in this particular pic but should have an identical view.
I cannot be certain because this pic doesn't have enough reference points, but I believe that G4071 is the one right in the middle of this pic (again, between two huge winches): http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2383319700015776840pPZIyk.
In summary, from what I can tell, the Vista-class deck plans are accurate for the smaller lifeboats forward of the midship elevators but are NOT accurate with the larger tenders aft of the midship elevators. So Cat G is between lifeboats or at the end of one, and Cat GG or H is totally or almost totally obstructed by a lifeboat.

You are so correct. We had another set of friends on the Zuiderdam (also the same layout), that were forward of mid ship elevators and had the smaller lifeboats. They had a nice view over the lifeboat . I saw their room and was impressed by how much light (with the large window) their room had.Actually their window was not completely covered by the small lifeboat.
