We returned from our Eurodam cruise on April 11th (Had a good time!). I checked my credit card on line, that I used for my on board ship credit. Everything was fine. Yesterday I get a call from Credit Card, asking if I authorized a 129.99 charge dated 4/21/09. It was a charge from a gift shop from out of the states. I ofcourse said no, did not use the card for anything BUT the ship board credit. So good news is, it was caught and the card has been canceled.
I then talked to my friend this morning, who was also on the cruise with us. She said her Discover card called her Monday, told her that they canceled her card, because of fraudulent charges trying to post, from a company that is international and known for fraud charges? Again, it is the card she used for the ship board Credit.

So anyone else recently have this problem? Which of course was taken care of quickly, by the CC companies. Just curious. 5th cruise, and have never had this happen when we came home.......

Also, I did not post a review of our April 4th sailing on Eurodam. Seems like everything has been covered pretty good! Vacation was fun, food was great, but Holland is not for us. We are glad we tried the line though. The little things we compared to Royal and Princess, add up and make you realize which line is for each of us cruisers:) But you can never have a bad cruise! Your away from home on vacation!

If anyone has any questions or wants my opinion on something, ask away!!

Wierd.

I have NEVER had this sort of problem, and on occasion ... very rarely, but on occasion ... I've even used my credit card for purchases in foreign countries ... such as Costa Rica and the South Pacific. Most recently I used my AMEX card in Bora Bora for some purchases at Bloody Mary's. Never had any problems at all.

Of course, the charges will come out on your credit card in U.S. dollars and I only know a ballpark figure of what it will be beforehand sometimes, so maybe I am being shafted a bit ... but I've never had outright fradulent charges posted.

If you're only using your card on the ship, though, I can't imagine how these other overseas vendors are getting your number. I know HAL certainly wouldn't give it to them.

Blue skies ...

I also would not think HAL would give anyone my number on purpose....But there are ALOT of people involved on the cruise, so I would think the only way this could happen is if an employee was to take the CC number. Could even be an employee who works on land for HAL.

Again, very happy it was taken care of quickly. Just was curious if we were the only families this has happened to. 2100 passengers on each sailing, you would think maybe it happened before.

Also, like I stated before my CC and my friends, were only used for the ship board credit.

On our last cruise we did have problems. We were in the Caribbean on a Celebrity ship and found our card was being used when my DW tried to buy a dress in St Thomas and the card was denied. The shop owner was kind enough to call and 800 number and let us talk to the credit card company. It was the card we were using onboard. We believe that the card number may have been compromised at the hotel in Ft Lauderdale, but it's hard to know for sure. The only other places we had used it just before leaving were American Airlines to pay for checked luggage and at the cruise terminal before boarding the ship. The hotel was prepaid, but they ran the card in case there were incidental charges. One of the first charges was a shredding company.

This happened to us after a RCCL cruise. We have a credit card we only use for cruises on board account. A few days after we got home we went on line to make sure the on board amount was correct and there was a charge on the card from walmart for over 200$. It was a local Walmart that I almost never go to and it was the day before so I knew it was not me. Since the port is only 45 minutes away I thought someone on the ship got the number and passed it on. We own our own business and I know how easy it is for a dishonest person to get credit card numbers. We called Mastercard right away and they took off the amount and canceled the card.

Just out of curiosity, why did you decide HAL is not for you?

I'm interested, also.

What were the things you prefer about Princess over HAL?
Thanks.
