I've never cruised to Montreal, but I grew up there and lived there until I was in my 20's.
It's an amazing and beautiful city. Please try to do a tour that includes Notre Dame, Old Montreal and hopefully Mont Royal (the mountain in the middle of downtown) and St Joseph's Oratory.
My husband went back to Montreal a few years ago for a couple's trip before we adopted our son, and we did a bunch of touristy things. We stayed downtown in the lovely Queen Elizabeth and took a coach tour that was lots of fun.
Here's a pic of the oratory (if I can figure out how to insert pictures lol)

There's also things like the Olympic Stadium as well as Biodome, museums, walking tours of Old Montreal (very close to the port, I assume). There are amazing restaurants, clubs, outdoor cafés.
Ah... now I want to go back to Montreal lol.

The ship docks just about at Old Montreal. It's a lovely short walk to see that pretty section of the city.
We go every summer on Maasdam and love our day there.
The above were excellent suggestions what to see. That (with a little shopping added in) will fill your day.
When sightseeing in Old Montreal during the day, read the menus that are posted in front of the restaurants (like in Europe). Pick one you like and make a reservation for dinner that night. Treat yourself to a lovely evening. It's worth it. IMO

Here you can all kinds of info. Put in the date you will be there and anything special on that day will pop up.
Montreal is a world class city. You may feel like you are in France because in the province of Quebec all signs are in French. There is a really pretty old town with cobbled streets, historic buildings and lots of restaurants. With a little research you will find something for sure. But a big sity like that, too bad you weren't coming earlier, so much to see and do.

Skippy - if you want to, please e-mail me as I had a code for a great rate at the Queen Elizabeth (or pretty much any Fairmont hotel). We had it booked to go to Montreal the weekend of May 30 but I don't think we'll be going now, but you could see if the code still works.
My e-mail is jr DOT jewel AT rogers DOT com.
