View Full Version : Why so expensive?

Hi everyone!

I'm very new to the world of cruising; just got back from my first (on Celebrity) a week and a half ago. I'm already looking for more, and I came across a sailing of the Regatta. It is a 16-night trip from Barcelona to Stockholm, leaving on May 23rd.

The least expensive cabin is Cat G, for $3099. The owner's suite is $8800. Why are Oceania's prices so expensive? Admittedly I am new to all this, but I don't get it. Is it better service? Better food? From what I have seen of lines like Celebrity and Carnival, their rates are all pretty similar. But Oceania's seem much higher. Is there a specific reason?

Thanks!

I found the prices on Oceania to be very good when compared to Radisson, Crystal and Silver Seas. The Oceania cruiseline is much closer in level of service, food and ambience to these ships than the mass market ships you mentioned above.

Ah! I was not aware that there were distinct classes as such. It does make sense, though. :)

Are you comparing prices for a 16 day cruise? The food is decidedly better on Oceania. Oceania has Celebrity beat in many ways. They are closer in comparison to Radisson or Crystal.

I had to see.....
Just to see what you were comparing.. at Celebrity website for a May cruise to basically same ports ( but Celebrity is only 14 days) the least expensive cabin is $3,050 p/p and most expensive , which is a penthouse is $ 13,050 per person.
Granted that would probably be a brochure price , which would end up being alot less ( usually) but those prices seem higher to me.
