Does the menu change during the cruise?

No, the menu items stay the same. There is a good variety of dishes to suit most any palate and to enjoy the venue more than once during a cruise without eating the same thing again.

I couldn't find meatloaf on that comprehensive menu (which looking at, by the way, makes me hungry!). Did I overlook it? :p

Meatloaf is offered in the main dining room on the last night. Terrible. I like almost anyone's meatloaf but that was the worst ever. With red wind sauce?
That's a joke.
The beef in the specialty restaurant was truely outstanding Excellent in every way. The sides I had, scalloped potatoes, were no more than ok. The chocolate volcano cake was good but not special. Of course these are only my personal opinions.
Oh, but those steaks. WOW!

Dear Ziggy;

Thanks and no thanks for the menu posting.
Thanks for reminding me of such delicious food awaiting us on our Maasdam cruise. Even the Dutch night menu looks alright, as boiled cabbage is the only food I will never eat again.
No thanks, for causing me to toss a box of salt free triscuits at the waste basket.
Even the dog does not care for triscuits, so I guess I better find a broom.

There is also a nightly special which is not on the menu. We ate in the Pinnacle twice - one night the special was venison and one night it was lobster tail.

If the venison is anything like the venison in the main dining room, just order the beef...

The Pinnacle menu has changed just a little. A couple of items have been dropped and a couple have been added.

On our 21 day cruise, lobster tails were not offered any evening. But there was a special on some evenings - not every night.

The 2 nights we went to the Pinnacle there was no special offered - at least that we were made aware of. The shrimp scampi my wife had looked better, and she and the waiter agreed, was better than lobster. They were huge. The lobster tails we had in the main dining room were outstanding - 2 big Maine lobster tails, I actually had 4, yummy.

Shrimp Scampi must be a fairly new addition. We have not seen it in the Pinnacle as late as June.

KK- do you remember what dishes were added and deleted?

It was called "cedar planked scampi". I don't know what was new or replaced just what we ordered last week.

On our Statendam cruise, these were the Pinnacle Grill changes: The goat cheese ball was replaced witha mushroom cnaope on the begining appetizer. For the first 10 days of the cruise we had lamb medallions instead of chops - then the last 11 days it went back to the chops. Chicken Marsala with Washington cherries replaced Rosemary chicken. The honey maple 3 bean ragout was dropped as well as the Seafood cioppino (DH was sorry to lose the cioppino). Added a Pinnacle Creme Brulee - chocolate, coffee and vanilla bean - for dessert. Also you can now order from a selection of ice creams and sorbets.

The shrimp scampi was offered as the evening special a couple of nights.

Loss of Seafood Cioppino is a real loss. However, Chicken Marsala w/ Wash. Cherries in place of Rosemary Ckn= +. Mushroom canape in place of goat cheese ball = +. Shrimp Scampi and Creme Brulee = +++++++. Okay, I'm happy with the changes.

KK the Creme Brulee sampler sounds wonderful, just a bit lighter than the Volcano Cake. Hope they have it next week on the Ryndam:p

Maybe they decided on shrimp scampi instead of the lobster?

Press Release from June.

The Pinnacle Grill features great steaks, seafood and unique signature entrees. An exciting new signature dish, cedar planked lobster with roasted garlic scampi-butter and herb crumbs, is a delectable addition to the already amazing menu offering. Other signature entrees include chicken marsala with Washington cherries and cedar planked halibut with Alaskan king crab. Also featured are “Sterling Silver” premium hand-selected cuts of beef, unsurpassed in tenderness and taste, including two sizes of filet mignon. A food and wine tasting menu is also available, which provides guests with an opportunity to sample delectable options such as smoked salmon tartare with grilled asparagus wasabi sabayon. Coupled with a glass of Washington state’s own Chateau Ste. Michelle Sauvignon Blanc Horse Heaven wine, diners experience what amounts to a ‘culinary nirvana.’

We are thinking of booking the Pinnacle Grill for the first night, when it is half price. I can understand an additional $20 (for the two of us) but is it really THAT much better at twice that price? We've only cruised HAL once before (out of 20 cruises) but I remember the food being very good in the regular dining room. Two and a half weeks til we leave! Amsterdam from Rio to Valparaiso plus Antarctica!

We have eaten quite a few times at the Pinnacle Grill on various HAL ships and we do find the quality of the filets and lamb to be much better than in the main dining room.
