80.00 unlimited laundry

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can some one tell me information ( how often you can send something out, hung or folded flat, time it takes to get it back, I assumme it is wash only not dry clean, etc) on the 80.00 unlimited laundry fee on the Oosterdam?

We will be a way 20 days on the Fall transatlantic and it would be great to pay the fee and not have extra suitcases and bring home close almost all cleaned.

The price of the unlimited laundry package depends on the length of the cruise. We almost always buy this service (you need to sign up on the first day of your cruise). When sent out early in the morning, sometimes it comes back the same day. They say they will have it back to you within 48 hours. You can designate folded or on a hanger, as you prefer. We have always been very satisfied with the service. I love that it all comes back pressed and neat, with the small things in tissue paper in a basket. They do wash in very hot water, so I do fragile things (bras, panties, etc.) by hand. ----Penny

First you will either have to send out laundry on the Oosterdam - or wash it yourself in the bathroom sink.

You can send out laundry every day if you wish.

You will mark on the laundry slip as to your choice of folded or on hangers.

Laundry is usually returned in 2-3 days. I've seen some laundry slips that indicate the 'unlimited' laundry is returned in 72 hrs, while 'by the bag' laundry takes 48 hrs.

Dry leaning is not part of the package. Still available - by the item pricing.

It is only $80.00 for 20 nights, wow? We paid $70.00 for 10 nights (2 persons) in Europe 2008. It was an additional $30.00 for pressing, so $100.00 total.

Is this available on all HAL ships? We're looking at a baggage fee of approximately $100 for our extra bags and this would be a super option.

All of our clothes have come back pressed with either the unlimited laundry or the 'all you can cram into the bag' pricing. I've always looked at the pressing only package as something for those who want their clean clothes pressed - either wrinkled from packing or they did their own wash (on those ships that have passenger self laundry) and didn't want to do the ironing themselves.

I do agree that $80 seems low for a 20-day cruise. I think we paid $120 on a 15-day (that one did say an extra day on the return of laundry with the unlimited package). For 20-days in Europe last summer it was at least that - if not more. We decided the bag pricing was better for us on that cruise. Quicker turn around and we could fit 3-days worth of clothing in the bag, so the cost was also less than the unlimited.

On the Statendam in Nov. for 28 days & plan to use by the bag ($15.00 each) throughout the cruise..We can fit lots more than 3 days (for the two of us) of clothes in the blue HAL bag.. DH is fantastic at stuffing it, so that there is not one inch of space when we finally close it up..;).Corners are stuffed with socks & we roll 3 or 4 of his shirts, slacks & shorts together & do the same with my things..The bag is so heavy that we can't hang it from the cabin hooks...If we use the bag 6 times ($90), believe that's a lot less than the flat rate unlimited laundry for 28 days, which I image would be over $200..

So far, have planned on 8-10 casual evening changes (20 nights) & four formal changes for 8 formal nights.., Hope to be able to wear our dinner clothes twice..Don't like to send our special evening clothes or bra's to the laundry, as prefer to wash them in cool water or by hand....DH's Tux & some of my evening things may need cleaning/pressing.. Planning on 10-12 daytime wear changes. Some of those such as shorts, cropped slacks & everyday long slacks can be worn twice...I might do one or perhaps two loads of laundry myself just for special things, but will mostly use the bag..

After all we'll have $500 in OBC's to use up & we both only have a glass of wine each evening or may occasionally have a pre-dinner or after-dinner drink in one of the lounges. If I have a pre dinner drink I won't have wine, as want to stay awake..LOL;) Our bar bill is usually quite small..

And, don't need another piece of jewelry or another knick-knack...We would like to downsize & will have to get rid of lots of stuff  we've purchased over the years.. ;)

Cheers...:)Betty

Yes, we were on Noordam last summer and their was a separate price for laundry and pressing. For 10 nights it was $70.00 for the laundry and $30.00 for the pressing for the cabin. Seattle was really mixed up on prices last year and with multiple emails to the Ship Coordinator I was still overcharged (price lower in room - price list - so I had to go to the front desk to get my credit.

Isn't pressing for clothing that only needs to be pressed? I would assume that all the items that are laundered would be pressed and the laundry price would include the pressing.

We will be on the 19 day Panama Canal Cruise on Oosterdam this November and we definitely will be needing laundry service so I was wondering how to go about ordering laundry service.
We will probably use the 'Unlimited Laundry' option after we check-in at our cabin. Do you go to the front desk and tell them you want 'Unlimited Laundry' or would you just fill a laundry bag and tell your cabin steward at that time? Or is there another way to do this?

Bob

For the unlimited laundry package you have to sign up at the front desk on the first day of the cruise. The price varies depending on the length of the cruise, but averages about $7 per day approx. as I recall. Everything comes back clean and ironed and either on hangers or folded as you prefer. We almost always get this service and have been very happy with it. ----Penny

We used unlimited laundry on Westerdam (7 day) in March and were charged $45. That said, we turned the bag in by 9a each day and it was back the next afternoon. We are still finding the little "ID" stickers in our clothing! We DID stuff the bag full & just marked the "unlimited" option on the itemizing sheet. We loved it and did take less luggage.

called ship services for a quote on a 14 day b2b to AK on statendam. Was quoted $70pp or $140 for the voyage. Bag price was $12 per bag. Can you get several bags done at once? Unfortunately we'll be boarding with 8 days of dirty clothes after a week of pre-cruise touring. I would expect though the self serve laundomat to be uncrowded during first sea day.

Yes, we were on Noordam last summer and their was a separate price for laundry and pressing.Yes, there are separate prices for laundry (unlimited, by-the-bag, and per item) and 'pressing only' - BUT we've never signed up for the pressing package and our clothing has always come back pressed. That is included with having your laundry done. The pressing package is for clothing that ONLY needs pressing - you send them clean clothing to be pressed.

It appears you bought something you didn't need.

Just confirming that the unlimited laundry price is per person and not per cabin???

Just confirming that the unlimited laundry price is per person and not per cabin???It has always been per cabin in our experience. But - things change... YMMV

We no longer book cruises of more than 7 days on HAL ships without self service laundry. Prices onboard are ridiculously high, service is inconsistent, and it is one of their new profit centers. Unfortunately HAL decided to add cabins in their place, so that means no cruising on most of their newer ships - Prinsendam, Westerdam, Noordam, Zuiderdam, Eurodam. But all the new Princess ships still have self/service with ironing boards, so we now use them.
On either line, we spend $15 to wash 5 loads (2 times for 4 hrs total time) and go home with mostly clean clothes, since the capacity is high. One suitcase each for a 12 day cruise plus carryon - no airline surcharges either. $ 140 a bargain?? No way Jose !!

On Maasdam April 10-24 sailing, the unlimited laundry package was $90. I think that was for the cabin and not per person. We didn't get the unlimited laundry. We did use the laundry by-the-bag option a couple of times. That was $20 per bag and the clothes were washed and pressed.

Good news if laundry prices are falling but we were quoted this for the 4/25 18 day transatlantic on the Eurodam

120pp plus 30pp for pressing and it was a per person charge. The stuff all you can in the bag was a better deal and a cabin charge rather than per person at 20 dollars.

The advantage is you can send it out everyday and it always took 48 hours to get it back.

I am glad someone asked about laundry prices! :) This will be helpful when I take my 20 day cruise with Noordam Mar/05/2010 I was worried about how much to pack. With this new information I will be packing much less.

Slight correction here---
The Prinsendam (which is not a "newer" ship, btw) does have self-service laundries on board. As a matter of fact, last I knew there was no charge on that ship.
