I was just curious if there is a certain side that the ship docs on in Ft Lauderdale as i want to see which way we will be facing as we leave the port.

our cabin number is 6106, so i am trying to figure our which way we will be looking at we are leaving!
Do any of you guys know? thanks!

6106 will be on the Port side (left side). Ships aren't always berthed on the same side, but every time I've been there the starboard side is to the pier (right side to the dock), and port side has a view of the ocean. Regardless, as it leaves the port, the ship will move towards the east and your cabin will be facing North leaving, facing South coming back (but you'll probably come back into port in the very early morning hours, around sunrise).

More often than not, HAL ships dock Starboard to the dock in FLL. But, we have also been aboard when the ships have 'backed in' and port side was to the dock. No way to ever know for sure in advance which way you will be facing.

Wow..you have the same cabin that we have assigned in June. When are you going? Let us know how that cabin is. Thanks.

A lot of times we have been on 'dam' ships when they backed in and the port side faced inland. Then there are the times when we just slip right into our birth and port side faces towards the ocean. It seems like whenever we do back-to-back cruises, our side of the ship faces inland on that day we have nothing to do and would love to watch the ocean.

Wow....perfect example of not ever being able to please all the people all the time.

:) When we do our back-to-backs, I am always so happy if we awake on 'turnaround day' to find the ship docked with port side to the dock. We always have a port side cabin and I love to sit on our veranda and watch them load all of the provisions for the next cruise. For seven day cruises, they do not load every time they return to FLL but if we are aboard on a 'loading day', it's fun to watch. IMO

So....you'd be less than pleased if your port side cabin didn't face the ocean and I'd be thrilled facing the dock. :)

Four HAL cruises out of FLL and it's been 3 with the port side out to sea, one with it toward the dock.

We were on the O'dam several weeks ago, it was docked with port to ocean/east.... Catch the pics of the captain backing down the Intercoastal to get out of the harbor, walk to the forward door to go out on the deck... You'll be the only guys there!!! It's one of the places you can go, but no one explores...

I think whether they back in or pull in is up to the "harbor master" ane what the master says goes.

Being on the port side you will be able to see the folks in the apartments/condos waving to you as you sail out of the harbor.

Yes, of course. IMO it is a perfectly reasonable question.

I was just commenting that we all have different preferences even as to on which side the ships dock.
