We are scheduled to take the train from Anchorage to Seward. The train is supposed to get in at 5:30. I've heard (indirectly) that lots of passengers are on the train so that the Mariner will not leave at 6:00. Is anyone else on the train? What have you heard?

Hi Southern,
We're on the train on 6/24 as well. I can only tell you what Regent told me, but maybe others with actual experience with this particular route will share their knowledge.
Here's what Regent told me: We will be able to complete check in for the cruise while on board the train, and that our luggage (which is loaded onto a truck in Anchorage) will beat us to the ship. (No room for luggage on the train unless you want to hold it on your lap.) We will disembark the train right at the port. We basically just walk right off the train and onto the ship and, voila, we're outta there.
Sounds good to me!

Where did Regent say they get your luggage - - at the train station or from your hotel?

When we used the train transfer, we had our luggage with us because we had rented a car and returned it to the Anchorage airport. The train "station" was literally steps away from the car rental return, so as I recall, we rolled our luggage and Regent representatives took it from there. (Someone may have been available to help us with the luggage from the car rental return, but I'm not absolutely sure.)
We thoroughly enjoyed the train.

Hi
I have booked the train, but not through Regent (through the akrr's own website) - so we will be on the normal/early train (and not the special Regent chartered train).
Does anyone know what we do with our luggage? Does the akrr have a truck that takes it from the train station in Anchorage to the train station in Seward?
Thanks
Boo

Peaches,
I see you are going from Istanbul to Rome in 2010, congratulations! You are in for a treat, and you will be a seasoned Mariner cruiser.

I think if you're an independent traveler, your luggage goes with you on the train. Are you going out on a boat trip that day? If so, any of the tour operators will take your luggage, hold it for you until after your trip, and then shuttle you to the ship dock. If you're going to spend the afternoon in Seward without a boat trip, I don't know the answer about what you can do with your luggage and will let someone else chime in.
