As some may remember I originally booked an inside stateroom. I then upgraded to an outside room without telling DW. HAL leaves all the staterooms unlocked. We went to find our stateroom and walked into our assigned room. After about 30 seconds DW looks at the window and says we must be in the wrong stateroom. I asked her why and she said it's because there's a window in the room. I just smiled at her and she realized what I had done.

So glad that you were able to keep it a secret till you get on board and got to your cabin. You mean she didn't peak at the cruise tickets and suspect anything?

KK, I doubt that DW checked the tickets, and even if she did she didn't know what cabin we were supposed to be in. She just knew it was an inside. So even if she looked, she would have checked a deck layout to find out it was an inside room

She asked me who knew about it. I told her my mother and brother. To be on the safe side I didn't tell our daughters. When we got together with people from the boards they asked whether we've been to our room, and when we said we had they asked her how she liked it. So then I told her, "OK, the only people who knew were my mother, brother and everyone on the boards".:)

thanks for the chuckle for today, Orcrone.Glad I can provide a laugh, but it's actually a true story. I was just thinking of people that we both knew. Since DW doesn't go to any of the boards, I didn't think about people from the meet and greet until they cautiously asked if we've been to the room. Then it hit me that they've known about it for 3 months. So I added in that everyone on the boards knew about it. Of course, at that point they all laughed.

That's great, Orcrone.

So happy we were able to keep it secret and give DW such a nice surprise. I'm sure you made her a happy lady.

So happy we were able to keep it secret and give DW such a nice surprise. I'm sure you made her a happy lady. We got to spend some time in a suite on the Maasdam. Quite a nice way to cruise. We're in a verandah for our Zuiderdam cruise. Perhaps I'll drop hints of a suite for that cruise. Then when we arrive at the cabin with her expecting a suite, and it's a standard verandah she'll be surprised again!!!

On second thought, maybe that's not a good idea.;)

:) Orcrone......how many years did you say you've been married? Would you like to enjoy a few more years of wedded bliss? In peace and harmony? :D

Let me guess.....were you in #020 on Maasdam?
We've have spent many days/nights of our lives in that cabin. (including b-to-b's last Thanksgiving). GREAT location right across from Neptune Lounge and all those great nibbles. :)

:) Orcrone......how many years did you say you've been married? Would you like to enjoy a few more years of wedded bliss? In peace and harmony? :D If DW has put up with me for this long, she'll put up with me a bit longer. Actually, as nice as a suite would be, we're going to start 8 years in a row of kids in college next fall. So she would kill me if I spent the extra on a suite.

Cabin 20 was one of those without A/C, so hopefully the A/C problems will be fixed before your next visit.

Eight years of college tuitions......I certainly could understand your wife thinking a Suite less than necessary. :)

We have been in #020 many, many times including our B-to-B's last Thanksgiving. That was the cruise I commented we got to be vey good friends with the maintenance staff. Our a/c needed repairs as did the toilet (a number of times) and the sink in the dressing room. We got to be so friendly with the plumber, who arrived every morning, that we started inviting him to join us for breakfast on the veranda. (They did get everything fixed and working fine......) We did not book #020 for our upcoming b-to-b's on Maasdam. ;) I don't think it was available??

S7S.. you want to book the "odd" number suite rooms. The "even" ones did not have A/C for a large portion of the cruise. I was in one of the 4 insides on that floor. It was warm for a couple of days but that's about it.

Thanks, Maureen. We always have portside cabins. Beats me why but for well over 50 cruises, we have only been starboard two times....when there were no port suites available.

That cruise in #020 was the only time we had a/c problems in all our many times aboard Maasdam. Maybe we were just lucky on all the other cruises?!:)

For the many cruises that we were on the Maasdam, we were either in 006 or 010 and never had any air problems.

We did have an old refrigerator in 006 that they had to drill a hole into the dressing room and use that plug.
