My DH and I are leaving for Bermuda on 5/21/05. Tuesday, May 24th, is a Public Holiday for them. It appears to be a fun Holiday with Marathons and Parades going on. Does anyone know if stores, restaurants, etc. close down on that day.

May 24th is a public holiday in Bermuda - Bermuda Day! On public holidays almost all stores are closed but many (not all) restaurants will be open although for some their hours may be cut back. Pubs will remain open. Grocery stores will likely only be open for four hours (usually 1-5pm). Hotel restaurants and services should be open.

Most attractions will be open such as the Aquarium and the Underwater Exploration Institute.

I'd recommend playing it safe and phoning ahead to check hours if there is a particular thing you want to see that day.
The above also applies to any Sunday, there is no Sunday shopping in Bermuda so stores are closed. The city of Hamilton looks like a ghost town on Sunday compared to the bustle and activity on a weekday. :)

Thanks Swizzle. I guess it looks like a great beach day to me.

I will be in Bermuda during the 24th of May. Is the water rather cold to swim?

According to www.weather.bm (http://www.weather.bm) the water temperature in May 2004 ranged from 70 to 78 degrees, probably closer to 78 at the end of the month.
