Certainly you're familiar with the Florida Departures (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=495) forum. You'll find the expertise of cruisers from all cruise lines there.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites Convention Centre Hotel and was very impressed with it - nice new property, reasonably priced, included full buffet breakfast, and it was within easy walking distance of the Tampa cruise terminals.

There is also the Marriott Waterside, right next to the Embassy Suites, but it might be more expensive. However, it is right on the water (which won't help, of course, if you are facing the parking lot!)

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Rocky Point. It was very nice and had a very good breakfast. They provide transport to the ship and if you have a car they will let you park it. After the cruise they will come and pick you up and bring you back to the hotel for your car. It is also close to the airport and has transport to the hotel. I also think they will pick you up at the ship and take you to the airport. I didn't use that service so I'm not sure.

We also stayed at the Embassy Suites last OCT and had no complaints. Just a heads up, if you happen to be renting a car in Tampa, National/Alamo rent-a-car will give you a free ride from their rental center to the port (they have a dedicated van for that) and back there (airport) again upon your arrival back. Something not really known by the masses, I guess;) Have a great cruise!
