  1. I suggest you CALL the 800-number on that website and ask your questions. In 2010, we were in an RV and camped at the campground adjoining the Kenai Princess Lodge over Memorial Day weekend and ate at their restaurant. (Many of the employees at the Lodge were residing in RVs at the campground.) In 2022, we were 1 day off a Princess northbound cruise and were staying at Summit Lake Lodge on the highway to Seward. The internet didn't work there, so we drove to the Kenai Princess Lodge and I explained my situation and the manager allowed me to use their internet. I have tried to book a Princess Lodge room at various times, but have had no success being able to book a room like booking a regular hotel.
  2. For our 2nd trip to Alaska (actually 2nd & 3rd cruises to AK), I booked us on Holland America northbound, then we spent several days in and around Anchorage & Kenai Peninsula, and sailed on Princess southbound......different itinerary, different entertainment, different menus!!!
  3. Just found your planning thread and have only read so far to page 4 or 5. I have a few things to throw out to you, but I realize you may have heard about mine, or I may be too late, etc. We have been to Alaska by cruise ship 7 times (5 1-week cruises plus a 2-week cruise & a 3-week cruise) plus an 18 day trip driving to AK to deliver a new Class-C RV to Great Alaskan Holidays rental RV company in Anchorage. (A wonderful company!) Our most recent 1-week cruise was July 2022 when we rented a great SUV at a wonderful price through Turo, which is a car rental program similar to AirBnB or VRBO! Among my suggestions in visiting Anchorage are (1) drive around Hood Lake near Anchorage Airport to watch the floatplanes take off and land, (2) Alaska Air Museum by the airport, (3) see the movie of the Northern LIghts at a theater in downtown Anchorage, (4) research to see pictures (or maybe a YouTube video) of the Good Friday 1964 Earthquake damage to Anchorage as well as to Valdez & other towns and (5) drive to the Earthquake Park northwest of the Anchorage airport. En route to Whittier/Seward, consider taking the Portage Glacier boat trip. Another option is the shorter 26 Glacier tour at Whittier, which is wonderful and easy to fit in after taking the train down to Whittier & before the ship sails late into the evening!! We took the Alaska RR from Anchorage to Whittier "on our own". As I said we have been to Anchorage several times and still we have not made it to Denali....the mountain is quite often hidden in clouds &/or fog, and I figured our luck would be that it would not be "out to view" when we got there. (We have a history of fog, rain & clouds keeping us from seeing important sites: The Alps at Garmish, View from Windows on the World Restaurant in Twin Towers, Chartres Cathedral spires from train station which was supposed to tell us which direction to walk to get to the church, The Alps at Interlaken!!)
  4. Thanks for all the replies, which shows varied experiences. The immediate email or hard copy at our cabin has been our experience in past. I had to call TWICE to finally get an email with our final tabulation.
  5. Got off Voyager of the Seas last Thursday from a WONDERFUL 5-nt cruise. Our ONLY ISSUE: I did not receive a final bill on the App. Nothing added after noon the last day. I did not get a printed copy at our cabin the morning we got off ship. I have not received an email of the final bill. What's your experience with getting a final bill? Yes I probably should have gone to Guest Services. 1st time in 63 cruises with various lines that I cannot seem to get anyone to give us a bill.
  6. OldBoring: Quite likely that was my favorite magician, Jonathan Hawley, and he has been on several Princess ships this summer. He has a British accent. Google Hawley Magic (his page on YouTube and various social media sites). We saw him several times on Princess ships prior to Covid, when he had his sweet wife assisting him.
  7. When in 2015, I booked & paid for a 2016 cruise for everyone in our family of 17, I put the deposits and final payments on 2 RC credit cards. At one point we had ALOT of points, enough for 2 free 3 or 4 day cruises. In 2019 I used some for a cruise on Allure, and had a cruise planned for 2020. (And was unaware that those points had an expiration date!) But in 2020, covid hit & cruise lines shut down. During that awful period, most of our points expired. I didn't realize points expired, but absolutely no way to use them. I assumed (WRONG) that our points would be extended due to cruise shut down. But NO!! I tried to talk to Royal about it & was told no, that I had to talk to the Bank. And the Bank said talk to Royal. And both places said NO! SO, if you have that card -- remember the points disappear in 5 years. And now I don't use those cards anymore!
  8. At the present time, there are 2 small potential storms in Atlantic, way east of the Caribbean islands, one is called Invest 99L and other Invest 98L. One or both could develop into a tropical storm or depression. I was able to look at the "spaghetti models" for each and both projected to stay in the middle Atlantic and turn north, with only moderate chance for development. But each appears to be away from any coastlines. Most storms that end up in the Gulf move through the Caribbean islands SOUTH of Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica....there are exceptions though.
  9. I have heard or read somewhere that on embarkation day at certain ports in the USA that the ship's bars may not be open....True or False? I have also heard or read that at certain embarkation ports in USA that you cannot use your pre-purchased drink package.....True or False? I recall somewhere we boarded a cruise ship that we were charged an extra state/local tax on drinks purchased on embarkation day before the ship sailed. Where specifically is that?
  10. We will be Diamond after next RC cruise. I am confused -- are you REQUIRED to use a voucher to get a bottle of wine @ 40% off?
  11. The woman I am using for TA was able this morning to get us into a specific cabin in/near bump-out. Yes I did pay extra, but considering our ages and physical limitations, it was definitely worth it. Our 3 adult children (50s) worry about us too much and have been leary of cruises, but I have convinced them cruises are best for their father, because we are at/close to sea level & better for his breathing, and we have to WALK to get drinks, food & shows!
  12. "vjmatty" -- Thanks. That's what I thought I should be able to do! Not sure WHY the young man wouldn't process it, but perhaps he thought I was trying to do Royal-up....I have been able to change categories to improve our location with other lines in the past, but haven't worked with this particular TA company much. I may call back in today & see if I get a more knowledgable person.
  13. Thanks to "little britain" for that great information!!! Love the ice shows on RC ships.
  14. Website says I cannot do anything to post our checkin information until Aug 9!! I purchased the beverage pkg for Mike & me last week and of course RC had no problem selling me that!! I decided the pkg was worth it for us.....we are Emerald at this time, but after this upcoming 5 day cruise, we will be Diamond! Actually need only 8 points, so we spurged for a JS. We wont get off to do anything at the 2 ports, so we will stay onboard & drink! 😄
