Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. How can we send contact details to an individual memebr (in this case someone who we are joining a tour group with) without putting our email addres sout there for everyone?
  2. My part time doctorate (graduated this year at 57 after life in industry, teaching and various other things) was on research ethics in SubSaharan Africa (my participants were TNE students in Zambia and Malawi). Maybe we could grab a coffee (cocktail) one day and chat.
  3. We flew in from the UK yesterday. Four of us direct from Manchester on Singapore Airlines which was excellent. Five of our family have to be back at work /school/ college straight after the cruise so they flew BA via Heathrow. Long day for all of us and 6 hour time difference had us waking at 3,4,5 etc. Looking forward to some relaxation, some new destinations and a new cruise line (we've done Cunard, HAL, P&O and Royal Caribbean). We chose this for the different itinerary.
  4. We were just about to book for Christmas for 9 of us when I saw this thread a few weeks ago. Despite several members of the family having flown ultra longhaul on military flights down to Port Stanley (which I suspect make the Maleth look like luxury) we decided that the risk of these was too high and that we would do a different cruise instead. Now flying on Boxing Day to Houston (direct from Manchester on Singapore in PE) and doing an 11 day cruise on Princess. (My daughter (22) is glad because she had already asked if we had to do the Caribbean as we've done a lot of the same islands twice - this time we are still doing Caribbean but all different ports). Never done Princess so will be interesting to compare.
  5. We are flying in from UK on 26th December for a cruise that leaves on 27th. Flight arrives at 14.25 but we will have immigration to get through. Are we better staying at the airport or travelling to the port and staying nearer there. There is a 6hr time difference. There will be 9 of us so we will need a van for transport. Any (reasonably priced) hotel recommendations would be welcome.
  6. We were moved to Virgin Atlantic - those of us who were with P&O had to stay on the plane until everyone else got off and then the buses came for us - it was excellent service.
  7. We've never done drinks package until this year when we did HAL Fort Lauderdale to San Diego and took the have it all package for $50 a day each which covered drinks, 2 meals in premium restaurants, internet and $200 each towards tours. We did count drinks one sea day but only got to 16 between us. We definitely drank more (esp the first few days) but it was worth it with everything else included. After a few days I moved to more soft drinks and mocktails. Not sure P&O is worth it at a similar price just for drinks.
  8. We are looking at booking Arvia for Christmas and NY (we did Britannia 4 years ago). There are 9 of us so am a bit worried about getting tables in MDR (we won't all eat together every night but will most nights). The dates for Arvia work better than Britannia and as other have said when you add in cost of flights at Christmas P&O wins over HAL, RCI and others.
  9. I realise this but just wondered whether anyone had tried it
  10. We are looking at Arvia for Christmas for family of 9 (we did Britannia 4 years ago). When we flew then we all lived in /around Manchester so all flew from there. Now my daughter is at uni in Birmingham, my son is doing a masters in London and my niece works in Germany. Is it possible for passengers sharing the same room to fly from different airports (eg London and Birmingham)? What about one doing 14 days amd one doing 7? Slight possibility of daughter wanting to come home for New Year but potentially son's girlfriend could come for that week.. is that possible?
  11. We actually got an uber to the avis and then picked up our car which worked fine.
  12. We left them in our room and told our steward to leave the evening turndown. We finished packing after dinner and late show. There were lots in corridors by then. Have had five days visiting our daughter in college near LA and flying home tonight.
  13. We left the ship in San Diego to visit our daughter at college just outside LA. Flying back to London tonight after what fees like two great holidays.
  14. I guess we'll have to have them cluttering the room then. Quiz at 7, then dinner, then comedienne, so will be 10ish before we are back. Packing is complicated as we've got a week in LA with our daughter, so we are trying to have some bags with things that aren't needed for that part of the holiday.
