Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Not positive but I think the 'sailings through' line is there every year. However this does not preclude them discontinuing it. Just gives them the option.
  2. Also sizes and what exactly might be available. I've thought about that...maybe just upgrading.
  3. Also, I think the post cruise lunch/day room or whatever it was might be dependant on you booking a flight through Seabourn. I know they did this for us coming back from the Amazon. Apparently most South American/US flights leave in the middle of the night.
  4. I have a question about cold weather gear. I've looked at the list and assessed what we have and what we might need. When we were in Greenland/Iceland, the shop had a good stock of the Helly Hanson gear. We have a good amount of OBC and I'm wondering if we might be able to use of it to get the some gear on the ship. I know the shop is smaller on the expedition ships. Does it still stock some of the gear?
  5. 27 days gets you four weeks of benefits, at least that's what we've had. How much of a benefit you need depends on where you are going.. If you're in a hot, sweaty climate, you may need two bags a week. My husband and I have both taken the laundry benefit in this situation.
  6. Hi Nancy, we are on the June 14, '25 cruise and so far have not heard of any cancellations. Actually, the excursions started to show up. Right now it's in the special that runs to the end of January. I've waited to do this itinerary for 4 years...twice cancelled by covid and then once when Russia invaded Ukraine (we were on with a Baltic extension). Some of the ports have changed but I'm still excited for it. Hope to see you onboard. Margaret
  7. As far as I can remember, this happened on our last cruise (about a year ago) and maybe the cruise before that. And yes, that automatic hold is quite common for any hotel these days.
  8. I think the dates for the Ovation that are on the chart above may be off. We are on for two weeks beginning 3/31 and have reservations at Solis for 3/31 and 4/7. Previously we could only make the reservations for the second week but on checking back we also got the first week at Solis. Remains to be seen of course but it seems that the 3/24 above is now the date for maybe the Grill being closed to renovate.
  9. Not an expedition ship but in the same geographic area. On Sojourn last year, there was snorkel equipment available from the ship. We brought our own because I'm a difficult fit for a mask and my husband is a difficult fit for fins. He also likes to wear a flotation belt because he's not a strong swimmer. Yes, it's a pain to bring your own but in my mind, that's why we have it. No, we're not thinking these excursions are an extensive snorkel trip but even short excursions are a pain if nothing fits. At the Great Barrier Reef, we were given stinger suits (Very attractive) and flotatons vests to wear and I was really glad we got the vests because the water was extremely choppy. So if you are on an excursion, some equipment might also come from the tour operator.
  10. I've always taken the malaria pills, but never Malarone, always the ones you had to start before the trip and then take after (maybe chloroquine?). I would never tempt malaria as it seems to be on the rise (Florida!) and I am a mosquito magnet. I used the DEET spays, and did the mosquito repelant clothing thing and still got bit more in the Amazon than I ever have before. The Malarone appears to be a good compomise since you can do it rather last minute.
  11. I've been on 10 (11?) cruises and only gotten a Seabourn Club discount once. I think they recently expanded it to include more cruises. The on board booking discount is different. I've gotten it each time except the first.
  12. My TA, who I personally think is the best ever, is about 1,000 miles away. I actually met him on a Regent cruise, and even though we have met, I enjoy a fabulous email/phone relationship with him and always get OBC.
  13. We have used flightease for the last several cruises. The first time we did, we were flying to Buenos Aries in february and there was a huge east coast winter storm. We were VERY glad to let Seabourn worry about making our connections and we spoke with others on the ship who had spent hours on hold with airlines trying to rebook and reroute. The biggest problem we have had are airlines adjusting flight times that have made connections difficult. On our last cruise, we paid an additional fee to spend the night in Houston rather than have a 40 minute connection as a missed plane would have meant sleeping in the San Fransisco airport. We usually fly in at least a day early so we don't get the transfer benefit on arrival but usually take advantage on departure.
  14. We loved our trip to Mdina and the St. John's tour but the real highlight for me are the Carrivagio paintings The Beheading of St John the Baptist, and St. Jerome in the cathedral. I hadn't done enough homework prior to our visit but just fell in love with Malta.
