Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. When I first had breast cancer in 2013 they wouldn't cover me for 2 yrs after that I was covered again. When it came back in 2022 in my bones they didn't want to know. Same with my husband when he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma 3 months after me in 2022.
  2. When we had travel insurance with our bank - barclays - they wouldn't cover us for our cancer. Aviva are their underwriters. We were thinking about changing our bank as our local branch has closed and were looking at nationwide. When we heard aviva would be their underwriters we didn't bother. We are now with all-clear. £1800 for the both of us for 12 months. Only includes europe but it was cheaper than keep paying individually.
  3. Reminds me of a man who was waiting for the lift with alot of us on disembarkation day. Lift furthest away from him came first. He went at speed in front of us, there was a young girl in a wheelchair on her own just getting ready to get in the lift when he skirted round her and jumped in the lift. I despair sometimes with some people fortunately not all. He looked to be in his thirties and how quickly he moved could have used the stairs as he had no luggage.
  4. Yes we met some very nice table mates which was a good job as I think I might have cried if there had been some awkward ones. Can't complain about the company just some of the food.
  5. They got the coach passengers off 1st after self disembarkation. We left just after 10 and departed car park at 12. Thats how bad it was. Finally managed to find luggage up the far wall, hubby tried to get through queue with trolley asked politely if he could come through the gentleman (and I use that term loosely) said no. My hubby said I only want to collect my luggage not jump the queue so he reluctantly let him though. Should have seen hubbies face he was flabbergasted🤣
  6. Wasn't in the school holidays got back day before easter, departed 16 march. There were children onboard but only about 400.
  7. Got back from Iona on saturday. Never again. Food hit and miss. Couldn't get a seat anywhere, spent most of our fortnight in our cabin. Disembarkation absolute chaos. When we were going down the ramps to collect our luggage I looked over the side was like a cattle market. Took us an hour to find our luggage (and we kept to our timed disembarkation). Alot of people were not happy when we got our keys for the car we both said the experience had put us off cruising. I never thought we would say that. If we do cruise again it will be with another line. Have sailed various lines over the years, mostly cunard, and never had this problem. It seems p&o want to pack as many in as possible and then forget about them once you have paid your money.
  8. Thank you all for your replies. Will see how we feel on the morning of our cruise but will probably stay there and buy a few teas and coffees and set out about 1.30. I know its not far but by the time we have queued to get on ocean terminal car park don't think we will be far off from 2.30.
  9. We are due on Iona in march. We are staying at the holiday inn express night before. Check out time to room is 11.00 am. Can we stay downstairs when we check out until our boarding time which is 14.30, or do we have to leave and park up somewhere in southampton.
  10. We are on this cruise also and were wondering the same thing. Schools around here in the midlands break up the 22nd march but I know a lot of schools in other areas are a week later. When we went on QM2 last yr at the end of school holidays grandson kept wanting to go in the kids club. So I would say it will probably be the same. Its not like royal caribbean where there are a lot of things for the kids to do without going in the kids club.
  11. When I was on cruise personaliser I noticed on the mdr page it said no booking required. Does that mean we can just turn up or does it mean you don't prebook. Must admit I thought it was the former. Don't want to be bothered with a phone as we usually lock them in the safe.
  12. I thought that as well. I had a phone call from my doctors as bit of a problem with my blood test. He mentioned the tablets I was on from the surgery. Didn't know anything about treatment I had from the hospital. I have my hormone tablets from the drs but my targeted therapy drug and bone strengthening injection at the hospital. They had no record of them. Told him my low white blood cells were low because of my treatment. You couldn't make it up.🤣
  13. I get that with my treatment. I use dulcoease as is a softener rather than a laxative so kinder on the stomach. I am glad he is back home and all is well.
  14. we are also on this cruise. Will do some homework and decide. Don't want to do a lot of trips as we usually like to do our own thing and wander about.
  15. We are going on iona in march to the canary islands. Having never been before I am wondering if they are easy to do on your own or ship trips on some. Did think about doing toboggan in Madeira but then reality checked in, with my secondary breast cancer in spine and my husbands multiple myeloma (he cracked a bone in his spine about 19 months ago) thought maybe not🤣. Any other suggestions would be appreciated not just madeira.
