  1. @kazu Jacqui so sorry to hear about your foot/leg pain. I hope the doctor can do something for you so that you can go on your cruise. @superomaCongratulations on the new arrival. I am so glad the hospital is letting the Mom stay with the baby. @marshhawkand @kochleffel Please take care of yourselves - no more falls please. I hope everyone else is doing okay. Thank you to all who post in the daily. I enjoyed re visiting the port - we have been there a couple of times, once on a cruise and the last time on a land trip. I have no pictures since my DH is the photographer and they are all on his computer. One set of my grandparents and my grandfather came in through Ellis Island. My two grandparents came from a town called Monastir now Bitola, in North Macedonia. These grandparents during the anniversary of Ellis Island bought bricks so their names are inscribed on the wall there with the dates of their arrival. It was fun to see this when we visited. My other grandfather came in as an "illegal", he took the name of someone he was traveling with, not his real last name. He therefore had a different last name from all of his siblings. He came from Russia-Poland-Ukraine - we are not sure where exactly but his ship came from Germany to the USA. His first job was as a steelworker near Pittsburgh, PA. We have no idea how he got there and how he ended up back in NY. Wishing everyone a good day.
  2. There is a July 13th cruise out of Seattle but it doesn't include Glacier Bay. I do feel for you in this situation.
  3. We were on a cruise with a large group like this and I would never do it again. We also were not told about it. It was a Celebrity cruise. If at all possible I would contact corporate and ask for a different ship/ sailing. It does really impact your cruise.
  4. @Mr. Boston So sorry to hear about your friend's passing. @JazzyV Vanessa I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I don't think an air mattress will help you. It is very hard to maneuver after back surgery so the chair is probably the best thing to sleep or if you can get a hospital bed in your downstairs that may work too. I did need a higher toilet -we ended up putting one in but if you don't have one they do make a seat with handles. I think if your doctor writes an RX Medicare will pay for these things. Sandy glad to hear your sister is out of surgery. Some suggestions for her since the sling is horrible (I broke my shoulder during Covid - so I know). She should make sure she gets a smooth cotton cloth to put between her body and the sling where it rubs - it gets very uncomfortable. I also used corn starch powder before putting on the sling/cotton kerchiefs to protect my shoulder/neck from the rubbing. I know she will be given pain meds but the thing that really helps is the ice - I know some people actually get an ice thing where they can put their arm/shoulder to help with the pain/healing. I wish her good luck with the healing since that is the hard part of this. Like @Nickelpenny if you do the PT you do get back all your motion w/o pain but boy does the PT hurt!! @kochleffel I hope you don't have any more falls. I forgot to say congratulations on your instructor's comments. I am sure they are well deserved. I love seeing all of the spring flowers. Thank you to all who post here.
  5. We have the HIA package and I am wondering how to use it to get waters in our stateroom. Do I have to go to the bars for bottled water and then bring it back to our room? TIA.
  6. Thinking of all of those with doctor's appointments today - I hope they go well. Sending healing thoughts to @StLouisCruisers sister, having surgery today and to all others facing procedures and living in pain. Last year at this time I was recovering from back surgery. I am so glad I had it since thank heavens I have been much better this year. I just hope that it works the same for @JazzyV. @Denise T I think you will enjoy seeing NH. My son and DIL live in Bedford, I am not sure where Terry's son lives but I think they also live in Southern NH. We looked to move up there but my DH doesn't like cold weather. I would move there in a nano second since I hate the heat. Not much on the agenda for today, just a doctor's appointment this afternoon. The weather has been perfect these last few days, cool mornings and nights and then in the low 80's during the day. I am dreading the summer but at least this summer we will be enjoying a long cruise with @StLouisCruisers and then staying up north for a bit to visit our kids and grandkids. I look forward to meeting her and her DH.
  7. So sorry to hear about the passing of family members and close friends of the Dailyites, along with the sad news about the crew on the Rotterdam. In better news it was wonderful to read about the exciting trips people are taking and to travel along on the Azamara world cruise with @aliaschief to see places I will probably never visit. @cruising sister We did the expedition cruise to Antarctica on Silversea and loved it. You will have a fabulous time. Be prepared to see the most incredible scenery and wildlife. @Denise T sorry to hear about your neighbor. The police usually do nothing at all but if the harassment continues and you feel unsafe you may want to look into getting a restraining order from the court. I am not sure of the requirements in your state but it is something you may want to consider. Also though Vermont is lovely you may want to look at its neighbor New Hampshire which has much better taxes for retirees. Vermont is a high tax state and New Hampshire right next store has essentially no taxes on your income. My DS and DIL and grandkids live in Southern NH and love it. You are also only about 1 hour away from Boston so if you want to visit a big city you are right there with a good airport as well and also some of the best medical care in the nation. I am not celebrating my ex though we do get along and celebrate all of our family events together. The best thing to come from our marriage was our wonderful children and now our grandkids. I wish everyone a good day and happy cruising. Thank you to all of the Dailyites who keep this wonderful thread going day after day.
  8. With the special glasses we saw about 1/2 of the sun in darkness but not at all what some others saw. We watched the NASA you tube and it looked amazing. Happy birthday and anniversary to all celebrating.
  9. Happy Birthday @NextOne. @dfish glad your eye is getting better. I read that the weather is very 'iffy' for a lot of the area where you can see the full eclipse. I hope it turns out that sunny skies will prevail. @StLouisCruisers thanks for the pictures of Bergen. We won't get there on our Norway cruise this year so it was nice to see. I have a tree nut allergy and I can tell you, you have to be very careful with many foods as they are contaminated with nuts. Your DD and DGS need to read labels of all prepared foods like cookies, cakes etc since many are made using the same equipment used to prepare foods with nuts. I found out the hard way that they aren't kidding, I don't want this to happen to your DGS as it is a horrible feeling. It looks like many people are ending their cruises and the next group is getting ready to go. @kazu wow to your weather. I hope spring arrives for a bit before summer! I hope everyone is doing okay today.
  10. Glad to hear that Tana is doing a bit better. I don't know how you do all you do Terry. Wow on all the wild weather everyone is getting in the NE. My son's area of NH is getting almost a foot of wet snow. We are glad we are in sunny Fl now, but we won't be enjoying the hot, humid weather this summer. The hurricane forecasters are also predicting one of the worst hurricane seasons in years so not looking forward to that at all. @dfish- your eye looks horrible. If it were me I would see my eye doctor just to make sure what is going on - better safe than sorry is my motto. Perhaps the eye doctor can prescribe some creams, etc which will work better for you. @Quartzsite Cruiser so glad you are home safe and sound. It is so hard to arrive home at night after a long drive. You are doing so much this week from packing up and now unpacking. You will need a long vacation soon. @Sharon in AZ. Nice to treat yourself to 1st class - if you don't do it no one will. I wonder if @Cruzin Terri is okay - I hope so - I haven't seen her posts in a long time. So glad to hear everyone was safe from the earthquake. Sending healing thoughts to all.
  11. @JazzyV My 95 year mother takes Tramadol as well and it works for her pain. She can't be operated on due to age and this is the only thing that has helped her. @StLouisCruisersWe don't really do meet and greet so I will look for you in the Ocean bar and various other places. Hopefully we can meet with our DH's to say hi. @Seasick SailorI read that article but the people were on a private excursion and were late back to the ship. I think every cruiser is told that you have to be back to the ship one hour before the sailing time. What struck me was that another cruiser was in the same place due to a medical emergency and with the help of these other cruisers she was able to make arrangements to get flown back to the USA. But for these other cruisers the article said that it was likely this person would have died. So sometimes things happen for a reason that we don't really understand. I hope everyone is okay with the bad weather coming to some areas of our country.
  12. @StLouisCruisers sandy we are on with you starting June 29th. We have a 7 day Norway cruise before this one. We get to Amsterdam on June 20th early morning and we booked the canal trip that Jacqui recommended. I am looking forward to meeting you and your DH. And seeing the stocking in person.
  13. Sorry to hear about more medical issues but glad to hear that @RMLincoln's DH eye surgery was a success. I am relatively new here but even though I don't post much I love seeing all the pictures and hearing about everyone's cruises and travels. It allows me to go to visit places virtually that I probably will never get to see. Sandy, your stocking is incredible.
  14. On our cruise our waiter told us what the fresh fish was for that day. I don't recall if one of the days was salmon but I will say I had it multiple times and the quality was excellent.
