Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I won’t mention the ship, but on one of my recent sailings, when we told our stateroom attendant to stock double towels/etc, they did, but also mentioned that they would do just a towel service in the evening (just grab dirty towels and put fresh towels if we used). We were very happy with this and tipped extra accordingly.
  2. PLEASE NOTE I WOULD NEVER DO THIS FOR A CONFIRMED FLIGHT… Last time I disembarked Port Canaveral, we did self assist and were first off at 615, no wait for our Uber, and we were curbside at MCO at 7am. With Clear & TSA Pre, was at the gate by 715, and went standby (no checked bags) on a 745am flight. My thoughts, for a confirmed flight, anything much before 11am would be pushing it, especially if you do not have TSA Pre (regular TSA lines on the weekend are typically in the 30-45 min range)
  3. I believe it was turnover week for the aqua show crew, and that was why there were so many rehearsals. Funny you mentioned SABOR, we wanted to go there for lunch on a sea day. Got there at noon, only 3 regular tables were occupied - around 10 people total, we asked for a table and were told maybe around 2pm since we didn’t have a reservation. We ate at Johnny Rockets instead, and when we left an hour later, still only 3 tables occupied at SABOR. I did miss Playmakers too tho. Agree with your comment on Coco Cay, it was the most crowded that I have ever seen it in all of my visits. Only thing I would add, I was disappointed in the brevity of the St Thomas Port stop. All aboard time by 2:30 is just a little too early. Also agree that I dislike the 1x daily housekeeping. I agree with you, I’d be fine with fresh towels and trash emptying for the 2nd service. We did request double towels, and this request seemed to be fulfilled some days and others not.
  4. What do people think of the Webster/Clear Lake area? The hotels there look nice and seem to be an affordable option (Galveston isn’t really affordable in the Summer). Is any one hotel in that area highly recommended?
  5. #1 by far - The weekly cruise planner sales that are the same discounts every week. #2 is an extension of #1 - ship excursions - only done a handful but each one has seemed to have 200 people reserved when the expected capacity would be 100. #3 Wonderland - Did. Not. Like. At. All. Really wanted to #4 70s Night - I’m at least at the average cruiser age, if not older, and while I was born in the 70s, I didn’t have any experiences in the 70s. Go 80s or 90s please. #5 Windjammer - It is the same choices for breakfast and lunch everyday, no variety
  6. This would be my recommendation to Royal. Rebrand the Johnny Rockets as a burger place, but also with the crazy milkshake idea that Icon is getting. You get dual use from the venue, which will be good for revenue and also good use of space that can be quiet at night. As for the burgers, have a menu of crazy burgers to go with the crazy milkshakes. The restaurants are getting focused on being more experience based. Make it a burger you can’t normally get. Oh, and cook it to temperature too!!! Otherwise I’m in agreement with others on this message chain - why would I pay for a cheeseburger and fries when I can get one at WJ or MDR for no cost?
  7. On our last two B2B cruises where we had to change cabins, we did this. A day or two before turnaround we spoke with our current cabin steward and our new cabin steward. We asked our current cabin steward if he/she was okay with us staying in the cabin a little later. We then asked the new cabin steward if they could turn over the new cabin earlier in their cleaning rotation (I tipped both as well). We then found it easier to just move our stuff and get fully unpacked before we even had to do the off/on ship formalities, and had the rest of the day for the consecutive cruiser lunch and empty pool time.
  8. I had issues for lunch when I was on Oasis last year. Went to Izumi and was told no availability. I said that’s fine, let me place a take out order instead, and that I didn’t mind a long wait. They said it wasn’t possible. I just went to Playmakers. Wasn’t worth pushing while on vacation, but definitely had me question if UDP is worth it if availability is limited
  9. For the free cruise, is it book the cruise within one year of turning Pinnacle, or is it that the sail date must be within one year of turning Pinnacle? Also, does it allow for any balcony category to be booked at no additional cost, or only the lowest category (Specifically talking about Oasis Class with the Neighborhood Balconies, but also wondering about the Large Balcony categories)
  10. My most likely unpopular opinion on UDP pricing. I am sure RCL wants a certain percentage of speciality seating set aside for a la carte (premium) pricing. On my last few cruises, getting an a la carte reservation after the first day was difficult at best. So I think the pricing increase is both to increase profit but also take demand down for the UDP slightly as well.
  11. I was also on this sailing. Agree with all of your key critiques. The Casino bar service was off, they are usually the “A” Game bartenders, remembering everyone’s drinks and names, and here - even with regular visits - you were just another face. This is the only time I’ve had a casino bar like this in all of my sailings. Made in the Pub was my favorite bartender for the week. The casino was not as lucky for me, we actually gambled considerably less due to that. Agreed on activities lacking. With the activities, it seemed that in Curaçao they had trivia hourly - but on the sea day it was every 4 hours. The only thing that I could figure is that maybe a lot of the staff is being used up for the parades and other sea day events using a lot of staff. Definitely agree on the buffets as well. The breakfast & lunch buffets seems to have no variety whatsoever from day to day. The saving grace on Oasis class is the multiple complimentary dining offerings, but definitely noticed more when I sail the smaller ships.
  12. For those with flights to Florida on Friday (I am in this category by the way), while the main cruise airports (MCO/FLL/MIA) will not be directly impacted at this point, the Florida/Georgia line will have the hurricane there. This is a very busy flight corridor with flights merging to go to Florida & the Caribbean. My concern is some air route closures during this time, which could in turn cause significant delays or cancellations. I am attempting to move my flight up now, but seats are very scarce. I have a one way rental car booked for tomorrow night if needed. For those looking at one way rental cars, good news is that they are cheap now, as the car rental companies want to get them to Florida for the busy Winter season. $120 for two days with tax from Maryland to Florida.
