Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I just stayed in the W in Santiago and would never recommend it. First the bathrooms are all open to the room with absolutely no privacy at all. I was lucky that I was alone but the comments from others on this cruise (Silversea) that were put up here had a lot of issues, like a father and daughter duo. Also they have no air in the lobby as they have an open terrace restaurant at one end and it was in the 90s when we were there. Miserable place to be. Julia
  2. Unfortunately my sorority sister I traveled with the last 20 years got cancer and had to file for insurance at the last minute due to chemo. She missed 3 cruises over the last 1 1/2 years and I paid nothing extra. Oceana just changed the reservation to my name only. My TA got the info to my sister to so she could file insurance. Not sure where any extra charges are coming from. It was very straight forward for us. Julia
  3. I did some walking on the track at night after dinner on the Marina, only got off last week, and the net was over the pool and the hot tubs were chained off. May not have an option to use the pool after dinner. Julia
  4. I for one am glad that the beds are not so high. At 5 feet the couple of times we stayed in an Oceania Suite I had to hoist myself up on the bed, not fun. Open the suitcases and they will go under the bed or just lift up the end of the bed. I did this on the Vista in August and it was not hard at all. Julia
  5. On my last cruise my sorority sister that I travel with lost her hair due to chemo the 2nd day of the cruise. She had not been proactive and brought any head gear. She got the rest buzzed off at the spa then I went to the shops and got her the only hat they had, no scarves. It was a navy blue ball cap by Izod. So was just solid color. It was obvious why she was wearing the hat so until I could get her a scarf at the next port no one said or thought anything about it. Julia
  6. Sorry was on a cruise and I turn off my stuff while vacationing. It is a Olympus TG. It is the 2nd one I have had and I love them. Julia
  7. Again to each his own. I will not be connected like that. I have lived that way for 70 years so it works for me. I do turn it on a few times on the trip to check in with home but on the ship. I just do not take it on tours. Julia
  8. Thanks but I am going on an Expedition cruise on Silversea for Antarctica. Julia
  9. If they do an App and do NOT make me use it that would be fine. Did my last RCCL cruise last October to celebrate my birthday with a friend who had never cruised. They kept telling me that what I need to know was in the App and the only reason I knew what to do or to ask about was because I was diamond with them. I turn my phone off and throw it in a drawer when cruising and that will never change. I was raised by a mother that took the phone off the hook to take a nap. I am just not going to be that connected. I have a great camera for pictures that is water proof so I can use it snorkeling or can take pictures in the rain as I had to in Iceland on my one and only trip there. And it fits in my pocket and I plan to use it next February in Antarctica as it can go to zero in temp. But I understand this day and age people wanting that technology. Just do not make me have to use it if I want a simpler life style. Julia
  10. My docs came straight from O as my TA has it set up that way. A good TA is worth their weight in gold. Hanoj, I did notice you are not in the US and I remember a while back some talking about non US people were not getting the books anymore. Not sure if that is true but a good question for you TA. Julia
  11. Yes this specific cruise is to the British Isles and I am the one on the rollcall that said it was a Tartan book as I commented that it was not blue but had this tartan cover, I figured for our cruise specifically. I have had my book for over 3 weeks as have a lot of people. I would call you TA to see why you do not have it yet. But if you do not get it you can get everything but the luggage tags online and the porters will have those at Southampton where you board the ship. Julia
  12. I have done the last 3 cruises solo due to my sorority sister going through chemo and if I am not in a specialty restaurant where I ask for a sharing table I take my Nook with me to meals, all meals. Now if I end up sitting with someone else then I put it to the side and do not read. But why should I just sit and stare around at other people while I eat when I can escape to another world of my choosing. I would never have anything with sound and as stated before the backlight can let me read in low lighting but it does not bother others. I do not think this is rude. Rude would be doing it at a table full of other people. Julia
  13. My TA sends me a rebate check when she is paid, usually it is waiting for me when I get home from the cruise and she is definitely in the US. Julia
  14. If not doing laundry I can pack less for a cruise in Northern Europe or Alaska than I can in the Caribbean as in the heat you really cannot wear stuff again. Also in cool areas I do not need shorts or more than one bathing suit for the ship. If layering, the underlayer usually is able to be worn more than once as well as the outer layers if you do not spill stuff on them. Since I have only had one time on a plane that I was hot then wearing the rain coat helps with packing. Julia
  15. My first Oceania cruise was in a GTY PH cabin. We got our assignment on Monday before we boarded on that Saturday. Great cabin. Got a PH1. Just got tags from the porters for our suitcases. Julia
