Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. There was an amazing piano player. One really good singer who incorporated humor and great interaction with the audience into his act. Another singer who also used deprecating humor about himself (he had finished runner-up in the English version of "America's" got talent show) and his talent......but he killed it. Sorry to report that two of the three cast type shows were humdrum. The one on the last night, used the Apex showroom's special effects amazingly well in a Rock Greatest hits type show. We love the Wonder, too (see that you have been on her multiple time). The prices have gotten a tad rich for our tastes recently. We aren't sailing with kids anymore can't recall if you have tried an Edge class ship on Celebrity but they are quite nice if you do not have kids. I would not sail on one with kids but that is a personal decision. Some folks have sailed with their children and had good experiences. Sorry I got a tad off topic.
  2. Oasis class vs. Freedom class. I personally have never felt that the Oasis class ships felt overly crowded so that should not way into your selection. Adventure is obviously a Voyager class ship which would have been older that either of the two ships that you are considering. If money was not a huge show stopper, I would look at the departure port and stops letting that be my deciding factor if you could not make up your mind just based on the amenities of the 2 ships. I would generally go with any Oasis ship (other than Harmony - hate the Solarium on that ship) unless the price for the Freedom class ship was amazingly better.
  3. Not fans of Tap Factory (different strokes for different folks), but it would be great if RCCL would incorporate some of the headliner type acts from Celebrity. Do we really need another juggler or medium show?
  4. We too really like the ice show on the Wonder the best. The special effects on the ice are amazing. We like the water shows that are more concentrated on actual diving. The watershow with all the ladies that goes on and on is just tedious to us. (can't recall the name).
  5. The warmest solarium that we have ever experienced was on the Odyssey. Three trips on the Wonder and it was fine. Luck of the draw sometimes.
  6. Several times on the first day on the ship, I have approached the towel station without a paper boarding pass or my phone and been asked what my room number was when receiving towels. That can lead to an issue for you someone gives the wrong room number.
  7. I am glad that there are lots of options of how to or not to spend one's money at Coco Cay. We have been blessed to have stopped at this spot 4 times since it was upgraded and had good to excellent weather. We would just never choose to spend our money for some of the extravagant options available on the island. Two reasons make up our reasoning: our perceived lack of value and the ever-present chance that the weather can blow up the day. As others have mentioned, with weather that occurred on the orginal poster's day, we would have never left the ship or returned fairly quickly to the ship once the weather just failed to cooperate. Not having invested in a pricey option on the island gives up that flexibility. We do have the caveat that we would spend the day in the covered Solarium shielded from the rain and wind due to our party make-up.
  8. We were in cabin 11273 SV on the Apex 3/2 - 3/9/24. There were 2 loungers, 2 chairs and a table. We moved the chairs into the room next to the door. We did have to dust some soot off of the loungers a couple of times.
  9. We have late dining and would prefer to have our cabin attended to while we are at dinner. We tried evening a few times and the steward would be servicing the room when we tried to hang out before dinner, getting our showers, etc. We asked if they could come later and were told that they stop working at 8:00pm which doesn't work for us. Our last 2 cruises with the new system, we just told them morning. Wife likes to sleep in on sea days so they do have to wait until she is out of the room. We do ask for extra towels, wash clothes and hand towels. Do not like having wet towels after showering but we just push them under the sink area out of sight. We have always made our own bed. Do miss coming back to a buffed up room at night after the evening out on the ship. Heck, we miss the daily planner in our room and if we happen to see our steward, we do ask for a paper one early on in the trip. My wife never met the steward once on our early November cruise. It is what it is.
  10. We felt it was strange, also. Had never experienced that or heard that mentioned on our previous taxi experiences. Didn't matter in the long run other than the attempt to sway us to another location by the driver which we politely listened to but still had him take us where we wanted to go.
  11. We visited Cozumel on Wednesday, November 8th. There were 6 ships in port. This was our 5th visit to PB. Two adults (we have visited previously w/our 3 sons but they are now older and none were on this trip. I read before our trip about how PB had gone all-inclusive with the option of pay as you go depending on crowds. I read about other options and just felt like PB (based on four great previous experiences was how we wanted to go). We were not interested in all-inclusive or the water toys. Went to the taxi area and asked about getting a taxi to PB. There appeared to be 2 lines and we were asked by the lady handling the lines if we had reservations @ PB. We said no and she pointed to the line for us to get into. Not sure what that was about. Fare was to be $15 for the two of us. Just the two of us got into the taxi. He started with the questions right away telling us that without an all inclusive reservation that PB was a no go. I got the "look" from my wife. I just shook my head no meaning that I felt that he was wrong. He handed back to her around 4 different placards of other options. When we got to PB he hopped out quickly and started talking in Spanish to someone near the front. We took our time and just went to the entrance finding someone to speak with. Explained that we were multiple time visitors and we just wanted to pay as we went. With no hesitation, he said $10 each and the expectation was that we would order food and drink. We were sort of escorted (we kind of new where we wanted to go on the beach) to the beach area (over on the far right) and decided on four chairs on the end of a row putting our bags on chairs 1 and 4 with us sitting in chairs 2 and 3 under the umbrella. We paid this gentleman $20. We always arrive around 8:45am to get our choice of seating and this time was no different. The place was not nearly as crowded as in the past. We had no loud folks around us. We actually did not have hardly anyone much at all around us. People came and went in the 6 hours that we were there. A young man introduced himself as our server for the day. Same routine as in the past, he keeps your tab and you pay at the end of the day. We ordered a few rounds of drinks (alcohol and virgin). We both ordered lunch (chicken fajitas for her and chicken quesadillas for me). We find the food here to be a 9 out of 10. It always comes out hot and fresh and this time was no exception. We both brought a large tervis filled with ice from the ship and a couple of bottled waters that we drank while there. Food and drink was $43, gave him a $17 dollar tip so our total was $90. Much better deal than the AI plus a tip. Money was not the deciding factor. We have 5 free drinks each daily on the ship and more food in a day than we eat in a week. What we had was just about perfect. The weather this day was wonderful We went up to the pool for awhile. Music was actually not as loud as in the past. Their bathrooms are very clean. The service was great on the beach. Just hope that they keep pay as you go. We will definitely be back.
  12. Good idea to ask. What was confusing to us was the inconsistency on the various days. Not anything that impacted our cruise in any way. Just kind of odd. We are fairly neat. I would grab any glasses or small plates in the room carry them out of the room usually up to pool deck area. I would set them in the area next to one of the outdoor hand washing stations in the Solarium. I did not see as many dishes in the hallways on this cruise. Maybe they have someone patrolling and picking them up more often. OR maybe with the cost of room service less people are getting it. That was my attempt at humor. Hope your next cruise is a great one.
  13. Nah, I never thought to do that............one magnet with nothing on the other side on the Wonder Deck 8.
  14. Our May cruise was our first with one service per day. Fine with that and we were asked if we wanted evening or morning service. We chose evening. We have late dining and left the room around 7:35pm or so to head to dinner. Our thought was that since we shower before dinner that the wet towels would go away and the cabin would be nice and fresh in the evening upon our return. We make our own bed. We ask for extra towels. So the morning cleanings have never been much of a concern for us. Well our plan had a hole in it. On half of the nights our room was not cleaned after we showered so we had to push the wet towels into the far corner under the sink. He had come into our room earlier in the evening and left a towel animal, dimmed the lights, left the requested paper compass, etc. Not a show stopper and we obviously dealt with it. Just could never figure out the inconsistency. Spouse wants to go to morning cleaning on our future trips. I just feel like that is much more intrusive. I warned her to not complain when there is a knock on the cabin door when she is sleeping late in the morning. I am out the door at 6:00am so it will not impact me. One odd thing we noticed is that the "out catching waves" magnets are a thing of the past. Just have the "sleeping in" magnet. Suppose that is because they do not need to catch you out of the room since your service is pretty much locked in.
  15. We tend to look at things from a value perspective. I, personally, do not see the value in paying that amount. What if you get a partial rain day? We have been blessed to stop at Coco Cay 4 times since the expansion. Our family had great days there with $9 on-sale floating mats. To answer your question, it is way up on the high side. Your money so obviously your decision.
