Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. sounds great.... on last visit we did the portland fire engine tour which was a lot of fun and the kids loved it...ate at Holy Donut (touristy but had to have a donut) and Lukes Lobster- lobster roll was huge. Also ate at Ri Ra which was a lot of fun too. Funky shops too. Loved our visit here.
  2. we used them for our last year stop. Did the partial cabot trail tour... they were personable...on time for port pick up ... small van....we did not care for the restaurant they stop at on the trail for lunch... nothing out of the ordinary. this year we are going to try sydney taxi tour
  3. beautiful walkable area... only challenge will be which place to have a fabulous lobster roll or clam plate...
  4. Hi was there last September...walkable downtown...some fun Pubs within walking distance (Governors....Old Triangle)... Could do a partial Cabot Trail tour or rental car... last time we used Blackwood Tours....we booked Sydney Taxi for this coming Oct for Baddeck & ST Anns tour with Edison museum stop . reasonable prices, good reviews and they will work with you on itinerary/stops... they found me gluten free eats in the area...
  5. once in a lifetime tour.... Taku 5 Glacier seaplane and salmon dinner... pricey but the best excursion we have taken on our 45 cruise history.
  6. We did the best cruise excursion ever (after 45 cruises) in Juneau ....Taku Seaplane 5 Glacier and Dinner tour. A once in a lifetime experience with unforgettable views and salmon.
  7. HI I am celiac.. very sensitive to gluten. Off O Alaska cruise in September 2023 (1st O cruise). O did a good job but IMO Azamara did a better job. O had one gf muffin (same one) most of the voyage, that really did not have a lot of flavor. The other issue was for the muffin and gf cookies... they were in the same open case as the gluten ones so much room for cross- contact. Mentioned this to the staff at coffee bar... he did not respond at all. I could not take the chance. Did not bother me as I usually bring my gf snacks/muffins/dessert-ish items, etc with me so I don't feel left out. We ate pretty much at the buffet which they did walk me thru everything that was safe to eat and did go to the kitchen to get fresh food 'IF I asked". O did the usual. Azamara went out of their way every day to make sure I got what I needed/wanted even though it had to be made specially GF. ------ Now top of the line for me being GF.... Regent Seven Seas was spectacular. I would not hesitate... they have some pretty good rates recently..
  8. Is there a Ponchos Backyard restaurant there?
  9. IS there a Ponchos Backyard restaurant in the pier area?
  10. Hello we are planning our New Orleans cruise and wondering if anyone might know which side of the ship is docked facing New Orleans at the port? thanks
  11. Just visited here in September. A lovely little town... little commercialization...easy to walk to town from where the tender drops you off. And it was not too crowded like other ports. There are several tours that visit the big 3 in Sitka the raptor center... the bear fortress and the forest area with the jumping salmon in the ocean. All 3 were very interesting. we are late 60's and no trouble walking the forest area, had clam chowder and watched the jumping salmon (I guess only the females jump). Downtown is very close and has all local shops/eats. I wish we had more time to mull around the small downtown. A great crab leg tent downtown but line was too long. The Russian church is downtown too.
  12. Just back from Alaska cruise on September 18. We had no rain and 65-70 every port day... just the pick of the draw. be prepared for all!
  13. So just back from Alaska and this was the best cruise excursion we have ever done. We booked the excursion early on the ship site so the price from the ship and booking directly with Wings was the same. But if less booking directly with them,,,, I would do that for sure. The wings site (little house & seaplanes) are visible from the ship at dock & is a 2 minute walk. On contacting them, they said they would coordinate our time with the ship docking time. BOOK early. each plane only had 10 people. I would do this excursion again in a minute...
  14. A VERY HAPPY ENDING.... we called Viking and was able to transfer our monies paid and the insurance from the river cruise previously booked to an ocean cruise with no loss at all. I guess you never know til you ask....thanks all for your insight !!!
  15. Hello all! thanks in advance for all your help. We are looking for Pubs in Sydney NS and St Johns NB that would offer food and music or other fun entertainment in the daytime during our cruise stop at these ports. We are 4 adults and 2 kids (8 and 12)...I read that if the pub had a food establishment license in CA kids could enter. thanks so much!!!
