  1. A lot depends on what type of day you envisage and age group you are trying to please. I am not sure where you are looking and dismissed? Beaches to the south are generally less rocky . East coast has best beaches but can have sargassum depending on season and currents and no ocean swimming due to undertow. Punta Sur or Passion island are possibilities but have transport complications. Do you want just a Beach Club or a hotel pass?
  2. I realize you were trying to warn others and I never implied you were complaining. I just felt it would be more useful as a warning if people were aware of the location. Other cruise lines probably use the same location under a different description. I assume from the photos in your excursion description you were at the old Snr Frogs location at the north end of the bay, near the lighthouse and with a small swimming pool.
  3. Totally agree with @crewsweeper. I am sorry you had a bad experience but your description is very confusing. I am not sure which beach club you went to? The whole of the malecon is lined with beach bars so if you were in town it would be helpful to be more specific if you are intending this to be a warning. I thought the baffles were helping with the sargassum- was this not the case at your location? Or were you taken to a location out of town? Mahahual is one long beach so I am not understanding how it was small and rocky - do you mean your club was a small section? Was it at the north of the bay near the lighthouse? Costa Maya is renowned for vendors unless you go to a private club out of town. I am sorry for your experience but seriously, who buys diamonds from a beach vendor anywhere? I am glad you at least had a successful outcome and certainly hope you can consider it a learning experience.
  4. OK. I guess it isn’t particularly active because the topics are general not time sensitive or cruise line specific. I found it useful when we took an 18 month old on a transatlantic and land travel in Europe. In general you know your child best and what items will be necessary and important. There is a limit as to what you can carry when traveling long distance.
  5. That’s because most general information and advice here is shared on the family forum. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/28-family-cruises/
  6. The webcam at Presidente Intercontinental should be indicative of current conditions. The one at the port doesn’t seem to be available currently.
  7. I have seen reviews if you use the search engine on CC but I am not sure I have seen any since cruising resumed only VIP lounger reviews.
  8. The majority of the hotels on the island have day passes but they will be AI directly or via brokers. Some hotels have affiliated beach clubs. Whether they would have a day room rate or expect you to book a room for the night is another matter. Since the OP @kcrandy hasn’t returned to confirm what is most important it is difficult to make suggestions between hotel and beach clubs.
  9. That’s what I find strange. Not sure I would pay that much for the location and view from these casitas.
  10. They cancelled the excursion - not the port.
  11. Great beaches is another of those subjective things like food! If these are all new to you ports, Costa Maya is probably the best one to stay on board. You would need to take an excursion, or taxi, away from the port in Roatan and Cozumel to find a beach. Of those ports Costa Maya probably has the worst seasonal sargassum and has also had a lot of ships unable to dock this year due to winds.
  12. where exactly is the beach next to the port? Has someone re-opened the “hole-in-the -wall”? I am surprised @crewsweeper hasn’t notified us of this if it is true!
  13. $5 seems excessive but we have had $2 added to our check and was told it was a “kitchen” tip ( like Royal Caribbean’s “behind the scenes gratuity”). No big deal we just adjust the top accordingly. I agree about the bathrooms and have just had a discussion about this on another thread! However it has to be noted that since Krazy Lobster has taken over several lots there are several restroom locations belonging to them. Similarly there are different areas of the beach to sit some more accessible than others. It spans a wide frontage now. Most restrooms on the malecon leave a lot to be desired. Malecon21 has been one of the better ones.
  14. Yes I would have jumped on them too but we aren’t cruising at the moment.
  15. I wasn’t implying there would be a major change in crew just the fact they are catering to a different demographic. There will be differences but not as great as when the ship relocates from Europe for example. Sailing from Galveston is definitely different IMO.
