We are taking our first HAL cruise in a month and we have been loading our account up with OBC (this is something we have always done on other lines) to pay for gratuities and drinks. I saw someone say on another thread that OBC can't be used for the daily charge for crew gratuity? Is that correct??

I actually got a little teary reading this! As someone who loves cruising and also has to save for awhile to be able to afford it, I know this is going to mean the world to them. I can promise you they will cherish this gift and the memories for the rest of their lives. From your post it sounds like you are both teenagers and that is truly a remarkable thing you have done. What wonderful people you must be! Please come back and tell us about their reaction and how it went when you reveal it to them.

So, this is partially the problem...I have called HAL 3 different times and received 3 different answers. One said yes, age on our cruise is 18+, another said age on HAL is always 21 no matter where the cruise is (which is quite obviously not true) and another said "there is no way to know because its up to the captain so you wont know until you get on board". Which, again, seems not quite right. I cannot imagine they would require us to purchase the package for her if she cannot use it so I am thinking she can but it is frustrating not to be able to get a straight answer.

So, this is our first HAL cruise! Considering buying the Have It All package but I see it requires everyone in the stateroom to purchase it (which we understand). My question is this: My daughter is 19 and she has to purchase it too. This is a round trip out of Copenhagen so we are totally fine purchasing it for her if she gets to fully use it? The wording on the drinking-age for HAL says drinking age is 18+ for "select cruises in Europe". Is it safe to assume that if they are making us purchase it for her that she will be able to purchase alcohol (which we have no problem with) because its not really worth it otherwise? Thoughts?

We are taking our first HAL cruise this summer (super excited)! 10 day northern Europe out of Copenhagen. We are curious about Gala Nights? Do people tend to dress up more on European itineraries? (we have noticed this seems to be the case on Princess). We enjoy dressing up but are happy to just go with the crowd. Is it time to bring out the ball gown and tux or is it more like a nice blouse and a sport coat? Advice?

Thanks for the good replies...seems like a tux might be overkill. If everyone dressed like ComicCon I would definitely be happy to bust out a Star Trek uniform. 🙂 Probably just going to go with a sport coat. Thanks all!

First Caribbean cruise this Friday (Oasis from Cape Liberty). Currently packing (woot!) and trying to decide what to pack for formal night. In the past have usually taken tuxedo (most don't, I know) but I am wondering what Caribbean formal nights are like recently? Can anyone who has been on a recent Caribbean itinerary give me some general advice (percent of people in tuxedos, percent of people in suits, percent of people not participating, etc?) We enjoy formal nights but think everyone should dress how they want to for their cruise. I don't mind being part of a small group that choose to dress up but I don't really want to be THE ONLY ONE dressed up! Any advice or recent observations would be super helpful! Thanks!

My daughter just went on honeymoon cruise in exact same situation. No problems at all...didnt even ask to see marriage cert. Congrats and happy cruising!

Booked a GTY on Oasis departing June 10. Did the "Apple Wallet Trick" and we love where they put us! But since it hasnt been officially assigned we could still be moved. Anyone know general odds of staying where it is? Does it USUALLY stay what it is showing in apple wallet or does it often change?
