Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I have bad news for the Vegas trip, Le Reve hasn't been in Vegas for years at the Wynn. The former dive pool is now a fancy stage that rotates. I saw the new show, Awakening, at New Years and it isn't worth your money. I miss Le Reve, it was my favorite. Mystere, Ká or O are deserving of your money.
  2. There is a bus if you are willing to walk to the entrance there are scooters as well, which we found fun to use on our trip there last year.
  3. You won't see a spring break lull, midMarch to mix April will be some state and school on break. Plan on kids and families on board. FYI-Your February dates co-inside with Presidents day, either a four day weekend or two three day weekends. Not as busy as March, but In case you ever forthcoming at that time again. Some schools get a full week, so it makes that time busy.
  4. I know you decided but I wanted to add.My two cents that I agree you choose correc!ty. I think Europe if you come from.America is.more about the ports and value which you get both in Splendida. my port recommendations: Ephesus is a must Olympia can be done easily with a rental car too and it will allow you to stay a little later or detour over to the beach if you do Olympia quickly. Pireaus and Istanbul are easy to take public transportation and do on your own - not the sites early to beat the crowds. In Corfu, we rented a car and did it on our own too. Very easy and we could see the sites without crowds outside of the city, though to it over I would probably just go into the old town as there was so much to do.
  5. There is a sticky that has the status match table. No coffee card, just drink packages. Lots of people have talked about what you mentioned , but I haven't left yet on my cruise so I can't answer for myslf, but my research tells me they are more similair than different, food is good, not excellent, (there is a post on drinks packages and it has the menus so you can see examples), most shows are singing and dancing type because of the language barrier (announcements are usually in four languages), and yacht club is amazing if you can afford it.
  6. We did Klaipeda last summer on our cruise. The old town area is near the port area, right by the ship and there is a walking tour you can do as I recall with some signage (just walk it yourself). Go toward the right and see the ghost by the the bridge. We rented a car from Hertz and had a short 10 minute walk by the water to get the car. There isn't much to do except bars and restaurants, but we came back after five when things were closed, too. We couldn't even find stores to buy tourist trinkets after returning the car. Close to the ship is a fort you can pay to tour. We took the car out to see the missile silo so I can t speak to the beach area. My husband drove and we found it easy to navigate, but we encountered some dirt roads. I researched but didn't do it - take the ferry to the Curonian Spit. It's near the port but the ferry is on the other side of the river, so you have to walk around or take a taxi. I don't know if they used Uber there as we never tried to use it.
  7. We did just a carry on last summer to similiar ports. I took one jacket, one sweater, and I had only one pair of shorts, 1 Capri and 2 pants- then long or short sleeve shirts (4 total) and one dress. It ended up being super hot! I kept washing the shorts. It poured rain one day, but that was it. Look at the weather a few days before, but we needed all of it.
  8. We needed it last year for Sweden as they had a heat wave. Bring it and use it.
  9. Not making into port is different than cancelling months in advance... Read the fine print always and don't assume.
  10. Bus from airport was the easiest for us and a lot cheaper than the vaporetos.
  11. I think a lot of people know who they are, as Sarah Brigtman is about to do a North American tour and Bocelli is currently on one. I only clicked on this post because I recognized this as the title to that song. In case you can't tell, HUGE Brightman fan here.
  12. Last year with crowding issues you weren't allowed in before three hours, and we needed all three. Just over an hour to check in, over an hour to get through screening and after a snack run it was time to board.
  13. Stockholm:Haha my kids were impressed for five minutes then wanted to go to Grundenlund. Vasa is awesome though, we were there for about 4 hours as my husband loved it. The kids and I were done at 3 hours and that was because they enjoyed the cannon ball demonstration and got to help load it. Very interesting and free tours in various languages of you stay long enough. Not for the OP, but anyone else with kids the Viking museum near Vasa was geared toward kids and had Vikings giving talks and interacting with the kids. They helped teach them Viking chees, of course we bought one, and it has a ride, which as a parent was almost inappropriate, but I think my kids missed that part-it went over their heads. Honestly, all these ports are easy DIY. Get a guide book, I like to get them from the library, and then find your top 3 in each place -then do that in your order of most.interested to least and include things nearby when you can.
  14. Put hotel in Google maps and then ask for directions using the bus/train lego. It will tell you the options from your hotel and if you change time -for the appropriate time you want to leave.
  15. Never used cash either , didn't even visit an atm.
