  1. That is the best of both worlds. Using the ship for the big distances and land for the touring. We often sandwich land tours between two cruises.
  2. The smallest cabin on a decent ship is far better than the best seat on any jet. It is a great value in travel. I agree it is not the best but it is on par with other pleasant styles of travel
  3. I would check land options too. We have been considering that cruise for a while and once there I am going to stay a while. Princess does offer land and sea combinations for Japan. overall I like HAL better, in general - more ports, longer periods in port
  4. I don’t think it is a good fit to give legal advice on a social media platform, not good for the person asking not good for the website’s integrity. I am a firm believer in pointing someone to a higher authority and leaving it at that.
  5. CC is excellent for travel recommendations, reviews, logistics and so on. I enjoy those topics myself.
  6. I think it is foolhardy to give or take legal advice on a social media website. The person should be directed to the cruise line and the contract. This is different than giving an opinion on a flight, hotel, shore excursion or cabin, this is a request for legal advice.
  7. So your answer summarized is “read the cruise contract” ?
  8. That is the OP’s question. We are all only merely stating our opinion as none of us have authority in this situation. as to the others in this thread who think they know the answer , their opinion is theirs. They state there is no way to know but then boldly state what the OP should do. Can I ask - on what basis? I have been very clear that I have no authority in this case and would not advise the OP except to say this is the wrong place to ask.
  9. Showing up at the dock and saying some guy on cruise critic said so is not going to cut it. As I have stated at least three times I would call the cruise line and get it in writing. Personally I have a valid passport and won’t travel with others who don’t.
  10. I stated that there are discrepancies between legal issue between the websites which are written mainly by marketing and the cruise contract which is written by legal. I know of this passage of inconsistency and I would assume there are more. I read the cruise contract, that is the only document that ultimately matters. If it is unclear and I had further concerns I would call and get in writing clarification. As I said to another - you do you and I will do me. I am not spending thousands of dollars flying across the world only to be denied boarding for not doing my due diligence. You go right ahead
  11. Sure. On Holland’s website it gives smoking guidelines which are significantly inconsistent with the cruise contract
  12. Oh, well yes. I would hope most of us would not intend to offend. I guess there are some who might relish trolling.
  13. You can’t really apologize for an opinion😉 I am always cognizant that it is that - an opinion or at best an anecdote. Certainly some may have a personal experience more closely suitable to the question asked but that experience is always shaded by that person’s perspective.
