  1. I thought I'd posted a response to something about car rental in Frederiksted but can't find it. So, I'll start a new thread. Car rental Frederiksted: I will be in port late next March and, having spent two holidays of one week plus each, and having rented a car for part of those stays, I prefer to explore St. Croix with my traveling companion who's my daughter rather than take a ship's excursion. So... 1. Will we need to take a taxi over to the airport to pick up a rental car? Or... 2. Do any of the rental companies bring a car over to the Port? I'm willing to do either, but it would certainly be nice to have a car waiting when we get off the ship. Thank you for any information about this.
  2. I plan to rent a car next March when in port of Fredericksted. I've spent two holidays on St. Croix, each of which was a week long. Renting a car will allow me to revisit some areas I'd like to see again. Now... I'm curious about your comment that I need to book a rental early on if I want to get a car at the port. Is there a website I can use to do that or simply choose the car rental company I want, and a car will be at the port when we arrive?
  3. Thanks. That's what I suspected. I just remember what a lovely area it is and went a couple of times during the week I stayed not too far down the road from Rum Point.
  4. Are there any ship's excursions that go to Rum Point Beach? Several years ago I spent a week at a hotel on the north shore of Grand Cayman. I did go to George Town and Sevel Mile Beach one day, but Rum Point was closer, and I actually liked it much better than Seven Mile Beach. The beach is smaller, is set amidst palm trees, has a pier and also a cafe. However, it's about an hour's drive from George Town, and my research hasn't found any excursions that go there.
  5. I also posted my question on the "French" ports category as well for the reason that Cherbourg is French.
  6. Anyone have suggestions for tours out of Cherbourg when in port? Have been to Normandy Beaches and St. Michel so want something specific to Cherbourg and surrounding area. Royal Caribbean (will be on Jewel OTS) has some options, but I'm sure there are private companies that might offer something more appealing. Thanks
  7. I'm looking for options for Cherbourg. I went to St. Michel and Normandy beaches last May so want something in or around Cherbourg. I welcome all ideas.
  8. Thank you for the information. I do know the area is called Hellfire Corner, but in September 1994 when I went there there was a sign at the entrance to the tunnels that said Hellfire Corner. Anyway, good information and just what I needed to know.
  9. I was in Dover one afternoon many years ago. I went into the World War II tunnels which were just beginning to be opened and were then called "Hellfire Corner." The castle was closed so did not get to see it. Now I'm returning for a day in port and have a few questions. 1. Will it be easy to take a taxi or Uber from the port to the castle and return? 2. Can we easily visit the castle, have lunch and then see the tunnels in perhaps 4 or 5 hours? 3. What area of the castle should we not miss? Thanks.
  10. I hit enter too soon to ask about Malaga tours. Specifically, has anyone done a tour from Malaga to Gibraltar and return? I won't be in port of Malaga until the fall of 2023 so can't look at ship tours yet. I'll be on a TA from Barcelona to Tampa on the Brilliance. We'll pass Gibraltar at night which will be the second time I've done that. I'd really like to visit Gibraltar and have notice private 6 hour tours from Malaga but just wonder if any experienced cruisers have gone on one of them.
  11. I stayed a few nights on Antigua a few years ago and did a tour that went to Shirley Heights and Nelson's Dockyard but otherwise just drove around the island. I like the sound of the tour you suggest. Do you know which company books it?
