Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I can’t find an open suite on an upcoming cruise. Last minute decision. I know Royal Caribbean offers “The Key”. Is there a similar program on Celebrity ships?
  2. The menu’s on our end of January cruise were not accurate on the app until we were onboard.
  3. I have a group of 9 people (family cruise) lined up for Alaska in June. I booked early dining. My mother and I were on a cruise on VOS the end of January. We booked early dining, thank goodness! When we would leave at 7:00 there was often a long, long line for MTD. As in from the stand by the front door to just shy of Studio B. Last March on JOS, the earliest MTD was at 7:45. Thank goodness we were in a suite and had access to the concierge lounge. Eating after 8:00 doesn’t work for me. Needless to say, missed out on shows, etc
  4. I am not looking forward to my upcoming Alaska cruise. The quality of the food on VOS earlier this year was poor. I am hoping to get some decent meals in port. I’ve never had a prime rib before that I could not eat. I had difficulty cutting into it - using a steak knife! After two very chewy bites, I gave up.The turkey dinner tasted like a Banquet tv dinner and the turkey was obviously pre-prepared. The dark meat was a pressed medallion and the white meat resembled thin strips of bacon - two of them about 3/4” wide and 3” long. If the food is the same quality on BOS, this will be my last RCCL cruise. The next one will be Celebrity or Princess. while I’m on a tear, one pat of butter per person - really? Two preassigned rolls (same nightly) and two extremely thin sliced pieces of French bread ( there were two of us)? You pay “extra” for an owners suite an get one bar of soap to move around the bathroom when you shower or use the separate tub or the double sinks (stateroom attendant got us another bar of soap when we asked halfway through the cruise). Before I end the rant - I am D+ and have been fairly loyal. Will pick up third glass block in June. This is not the Royal Cruise Line I have been loyal to all these years. I should not have to retreat to Chops to get an edible meal.
  5. I felt the new menu needs to reviewed and tweaked. I was very disappointed in the menu selections on my VOS cruise the end of January. Promenade Cafe had little to offer besides substandard pizza. Windjammer was hit or miss (mainly miss). MDR choices were substandard. On land, if you don’t like a restaurant, you are not trapped like you are on a ship. I must say Chops was amazing, as usual, however I can get the same meal in the Chicago market for the same price or lower. I have another cruise planned in June. I hope some changes will be made by then. (Btw I could care less about the lobster -I am allergic, however it is a hot topic.)
  6. They had a white night on last weeks cruise. I was on Voyager.
  7. What exactly does the Royal Caribbean cruise insurance cover? Is there a reason my TA recommend AIG all the time? Does anyone know if it’s because the RCI doesn’t offer much coverage? I have trouble going through all the gobbly gook trying to compare them. Just looking for a straight forward answer. Anyone?
  8. I’m cruising with my 97 year old mother at the end of January. I need to find a hotel that will let us at least check our bags when we leave the ship. We plan to fly out the next day (Monday). Does anyone who has cruised out of San Juan have any ideas? We would prefer to be near the Pan American Pier. Usually I check my bags at Barrichinas and fly out the same day. Too much for her to do (and she can’t walk around port prior to check in). I’m sure someone on here can give me an answer. I’ve been hunting and hunting. I’m even willing to do a day pass somewhere first if I need to . thanks for any help
  9. I saw the posted menus, and realized that my days of cruising with Royal may be limited. I am not crazy about the Windjammer; I like the MDR. If they want to improve service and make it faster, they should return to the previous, higher staffing levels. Don’t kid yourselves. This is not about speeding up things. It’s about cutting back on the hidden kitchen staff under the guise of better service. Offering a limited menu, with foods I cannot/will not eat does not drive me to specialty $$ restaurants. It drives me to other cruise lines. Looks like my MDR experience on “ lobster night” is baked Alaska, or Windjammer. Are the offerings there next on the chopping block? Can I order off the kids menu if food allergies rule out the adult menu?
  10. Can we order off the kids menu if there is nothing we eat on the slimmed down adult menu?
  11. I was in one of the owners suites last spring. It is an amazing apartment. Huge double sink bathroom with jetted tub and huge shower. Living room adjacent to small dining table and chair. Huge sofa bed. Decent size TV. Great concierge lounge (kids welcome with parents). Dining table on balcony also. Expanded FREE room service. Order off MDR menu when it’s open. Free breakfast in Chops. Coffee and tea kettle in room. would book this again in a heart beat. And you get the ABC islands on this trip - wow! ps. Had dinner one night in chops and lunch one afternoon. Superb! Suggest you pull up a u tube video of owners suite on Jewel
  12. I see no reason not to build the so called gratuities into the price of the cruise. Since the gratuities are now used to pay the crew, they should just be part of the cruise fare. Years ago they were more of a tip. Now they are more of the salary.
