any nice ruins close by

Hello we are traveling next month on the Carnival Ledgend and would like to know if there are any nice ruins close by either at this port or cozemel ? we have heard that the ruins sometimes are a long distance from certain ports. Thanks in advance

As for Cozumel -

San Gervasio - on Cozumel - 11 miles from San Miguel de Cozumel and the downtown ferry pier - was a site dedicated to the Mayan goddess Ixchel ("She of the Rainbows"), deity of midwifery, fertility, medicine and weaving.

In reality, I think you will find Uxmal about one and a half hour drive and to me the most impressive, prettiest and least crowded.

Thanks for the correction and all the excellent information and advice you share here about the Progreso area. I thought I had read Uxmal is closer to Progreso than Chichen Itza is, but the Carnival shore excursion description says a "scenic 2½ hour drive," so I went with that.

Hey Thank you for all the great info, I am now looking forward to progreso. I understand that the pier is 4.5 miles long so are the taxies lined up at the ship? Also how do you get to Uxmal, and what can we expext to pay per person? Is American money ok or should we get it exchanged? Thanks so much for all the great help

I know that Uxmal shore excursion description says that there is a lot of walking. Are there places to rest along the way and is it constant walking or standing. We sometimes have problems with that but would love to see this sight

There are nice, air-conditioned courtesy buses that take you from the shops near the ship into town. You might have to wait a few minutes for one to come along.

I would like to find the bus stop/station in Progreso--does anyone have an address or directions? The last time we were there, we couldn't find it, and the people that we asked kept saying that there was no bus, we had to buy a tour.
