Le Havre to Eze

I meant to say Cannes to Eze......We want to do this on our own. Is anyone willing to give us exact details on how to get there from the port using either a bus or train. Whichever is easiest. How long will it take one way?

You have two options using train and bus. Option one would be to get off the train at Nice, walk through town to the Gare Routiere (the bus station) and catch the bus which goes directly from Nice to Eze (Village). The 2nd option is to stay on the train (you would take the train from Cannes that goes towards Monte Carlo) until you pass Nice and than get off at the Eze/Bord sur Mer train station. This is a tiny station that is just below the hilltop village of Eze. When you walk out of this station (more like a whistle stop) there is a bus stop right in front and there is a posted schedule of the local bus that goes from the station up to Eze (Village). If the bus is not coming for a long time your other option would than be to cross the road to the cafe and ask them to help you call a taxi. Now I will confuse the issue and give you another idea. Eze is pretty nice, but we think it pales in comparison to St Paul de Vence. When we happen to have a port stop in Cannes we will often just rent a car and drive ourselves to St Paul de Vence (about a 40 drive using the autostrade) and than often stop at Antibes before we return to Cannes along the coastal road. Although Eze has lots of charm, we think its sometimes over sold on this forum. Eze is pretty convenient for ships that call at Monte Carlo or Villefranche, but St Paul de Vence is actually a bit closer to Cannes. It is possible to get to St Paul de Vence using the same train you would take to Eze/Bord sur Mer, but you would get off just before you get to Nice at the Cagnes sur Mer station. From there, you can cross the street and get the regional TER bus that runs between Nice and St Paul de Vence (with a stop at Cagnes sur Mer). The only negative with this plan is that once in a blue moon, the bus will be completely full (it picks up passengers in Nice) and will not even stop at Cagnes sur Mer. We only know of two cruisers that have run into this problem, but it is a risk. On the other hand, Eze could slide off the hilltop into the sea :)

Hi there, cruisingallover. Sandy here from the 28 day TA to Copenhagen cruise. I'm keeping the roll call lists for the meet and greets. Maxine (HappyNewbie) just sent me an e-mail asking if you want your names on your name tags or just your initials as you originally posted in the forum. Haven't seen much activity from you in our forum so did a message search and see you are booked on a cruise in June. You really do cruise all over - how lucky you are.

It would be appreciated if you could send me an email at soaring2005@yahoo.ca to let us know if you are coming to our M&Gs on April 25 and May 13 in Skywalkers from 11-12. Did you cancel this voyage?

The answer would be Yes, but the details would be somewhat dependent on your hours in port. Both Eze and St Paul de Vence are not directly accessible by train which means both would have to be train-bus combinations if you want to use public transit. Buses to Eze from Nice run on a somewhat limited schedule which can be a royal pain since much time can be lost with connections. The easiest way to do both St Paul de Vence and Eze would be to rent a car and drive yourselves...assuming you are comfortable driving in France. With a car you might even have enough time to stop at Nice (again this depends on your hours in port). Driving in this part of France is not too difficult although traffic along the coastal road can be nasty (there is an alternative inland autostrade (interstate type highway). Renting a GPS takes a lot of the stress out of driving (we think GPS has saved our marriage :) and is a no-brainer option. I can probably work-out the public transit issues and give you a schedule, but you will lose a lot of time waiting for buses plus be forced to adhere to a somewhat rigid schedule. Another factor regarding using a car is that there is easy parking at St Paul de Vence (there is a large indoor parking garage just outside the walls) and Eze has a parking lot right in front of the entrance (it can sometimes take a while to get a spot).
