Montreal hotel help please

Our cruise ends in Montreal where we plan to stay two extra nights. Do you suggest the old part of town or downtown and what hotels do you recommend? Thanks.

Last year we stayed in the Port area or old Montreal, there are a number of small but very good hotels in that area. We stayed at the Hotel Nellign and were very happy there. It was very close to the port area.
