Hello all, first time post.

We are sailing on the Rotterdam, from Rotterdam on Sept 14th. How do you get from Amsterdam to Rotterdam (train?) and how long does it take.

Also, we have planned to fly in on the 13th for a 14th departure.

We have been to Amsterdam, so we know our way around pretty well.

Hi

You can go from Amsterdam centraal to Rotterdam centraal station in just about an hour. (I assume you can find your way to the railway station in Amsterdam since you've been in the city before. ;) ) The trains seem to run at least every 15 minutes, so you have a lot of options...

You will have to carry your luggage in and out the train yourself.

Avoid rushhours, and if you have much luggage better travel 1st class.

Keep an eye on your luggage (and handluagge) at all times.

Traveltime Amsterdam Central Station to Rotterdam Central Station abt. 1 hour. From Schiphol airport to Rotterdam abt. 45 minutes.

From Rotterdam Central Station to the cruise-terminal travel by cab (10min.), tram or by metro (underground). From the train and metrostops near Erasmusbrug it is about 5 minutes walk.

To expand on what has been suggested:

If you have been to Amsterdam before and decide to bypass it this time, take the train directly from Schiphol to Rotterdam and stay there for a day or two.

I believe there have been suggestions made on this web-site about things to do, but if you care to know more, please let us know.

Rotterdam is a very modern city compared with Amsterdam. Perhaps not as "gezellig" (cozy, quaint) but very interesting. See the tilted houses, take a boat tour of the harbor or browse in downtown.

Most folks speak English and it is easy to ask for directions and help. September should be a good time of year as far as the weather goes.
