Past Mercury Cruises - Question

Past Mercury Cruisers -

I remember seeing a post on this board about a great little used, non-crowded deck area to watch sailaway (or to use for glacier watching or at other important times).

Seems it was the aft of a deck, but I cannot remember which deck and of course did not write it down as I should have!

I know this topic has been covered but with the search feature being virtually useless I can't think of any other way to get the info.

Thanks everybody!

Happy Sailing!

I found deck 11 to be a great place to view from. On my October cruise from SF, I sat at one of the tables and had a great view of the Blue Angels air show. The area had a good number of tables and was just outside and aft of the Palm Springs pool, at the stern of the ship.

I also remember a very quiet deck area aft on deck 8 (just below) which had a few lounge chairs. The cafe area that Reggie is speaking of is bliss! Under an umbrella, just looking at the wake of the ship, sipping a glass of your favourite. Best part of Galaxy/Mercury for me. Take your breakfast there in the morning too.

Phil - Thanks, I should of known to ask you!!
Have you started packing for your trip across the Big Pond?? Lois is so excited to get to see you.

So deck 8 aft or deck 11 aft (and bring breakfast!). But none of that black pudding! Lots of pancakes and waffles, with fresh fruit and whipped cream!! And of course a cup of tea w/cream and sugar!

Thanks for all of your help - you are awesome!

It's close to the pizza/pasta/sandwich station which is just inside the doors. Food on starboard side, bar on port side.

Not packed, but the list is done. I am very sad and have a Word document on my computer as a standard template for packing. It was still set for last years cruise. I took off more than I put on (tux, formal shirts, ties, bow tie)! Can't wait to meet Lois too! And my cruising friends from last year It will seem very surreal.

Sadly(?)they don't serve black pudding on Celebrity. More's the pity. Michel Roux may be a gastronome, but.......

Reggie, where did you spend more time, port or starboard?

Phil glad to hear that your packing list is complete! After you print the list be sure to add back on the formal wear!! You do not want to forget that in Nov.!!

Are you going to get to do Disney? We are taking the boys in Oct! A cruise and Disney all in one year - I must be losing my mind!

As far as Mr. Roux cooking abilities go - as long as there is a good pastry chef on board I am game!! Give me sweets and bread and I could live forever!

So which do you think was better port or starboard? (We are still on deck 8)

I hear that going out of the Bay and be a bit rough - what did you think? Speaking of rough, have you tried the ginger tablets?

Well, I had better get dinner ready, the gang will all be home soon.

Hi ya'll...I concur...Palm Springs Buffet area is lovely.
Another favorite spot of mine is Cova....some wonderful coffees...complimentary pastries in the afternoon too .

We always seemed to end up in the Palm Springs area.....or in the Navigator too...great spot...we played Trivia there.

Shelley...I will be with Phil and his cruisemates for Sat evening, Sunday and I am taking Monday off work but I doubt we are going to do any "Mickey Stuff". Just relaxing for those first couple of days for Phil...you know how that jet lag thing can be .
We will swim in the pool and just hang out....have a martini maybe .
They will probably do the theme parks after I leave

Next up...HORIZON Sept 18th to Bermuda!

Decks 8 and 9 both have quiet areas at the back of the ship except that on 9 the childrens play area is at the back. We seldom saw any children there.

Don't forget deck 10 aft!
On Mercury, both deck 8 and 10 aft have small areas with a row of deck chairs, nice place to watch the wake, but do respect the privacy of those whose cabin windows (like us on the 4/4/04 cruise!) are right behind those chairs, no peeping
I also dearly love the side promenade decks. Especially at night, watching and listening as the ship cuts through the water ... sigh ...

Tell me more about the aft area on deck 9. I've been assigned cabin 9255-last one on port side. I'm hoping to use this area as my little balcony. I know the children's play area is there, but aren't there chairs also? Our cruise is June 4 to Alaska.

Hey Buddy, Cyndi and I are the cruise the week before you! I hope that everyone is right about decks 8-10! It would be nice to find a quite spot to enjoy the morning view and evening moon light.

Lois and Phil - Have a great time this weekend and don't forget to give the scoop on Orlando - we are going in OCT!
