Mount Roberts Tram

Can you still walk up the mountain, buy something in the restaurant or gift shop and ride the tram down for free? Is it worth the effort to save $60 for 2 people?

It is not an easy walk up especially if it has been snowing and/or raining. Doing the climb just to save $ is a poor idea. The hike up will also take a good while. The trail up from town is very steep, has some really dangerous places and some parts of the trail are not marked. You are traveling to Alaska in May which puts the idea of walking up out of the question.

There is no 'free ride down' option on this year's price list for the Tramway.

Remember not to buy a tram ticket until you arrive in Juneau because if it is not a clear day and you cannot see the top of the tram from the bottom, there will be no view.

From reading another thread it sounds like the tram is a waste of money right now as there is so much snow you can't get anywhere at the top. Basically you can go up to take a picture of your ship and head back down.

Just a heads up that is all. You can check into it further but I would hate to spend that kind of money and be able to do nothing but stand on the observation deck for a picture of the ship.

The 'seeing' conditions right now in Juneau are no good at all. That's why I advise not to buy tram tickets ahead of time.

The tram doesn't give refunds.
