Useful Phrases for Travelling

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a good website that would provide useful phrases in foreign languages that would help us to be polite whilst travelling throughout Europe, The Med., Baltic, Black Sea and Egypt please?:)

English is widely spoken in Europe however, the French do like you to at least try, and it is polite to always greet them with Bonjour Monseiur/Madame/Mademoiselle. Here is a website which may help you http://goeurope.about.com/cs/languages/a/europe_language.htm

Arabic is much more complicated but here is another site; http://touregypt.net/translat.htm

Hope this helps. Have a great time.

Thanks Keith1010 - I have been busy researching this site and have found pages for most of the countries we will visit. I have been copying and pasting for my almost finished "summary folder" (which is 10cm thick - about 4")

Thank you also to Nydolphin. Don't worry - I do plan to survive with English (LOL) but just wanted to use a few words to show respect and be polite.

There is no need to bother with any local phrases in the Scandinavian countries. I think most people would just be confused.

English is a basic subject in our schools, which everybody has to take. We are small countries; we can never expect anybody from another country to speak our language. English is widely used everywhere here.

I hope you will have a great time while here!
