Which month has the most hurricanes?

Doing a girls cruise and we can only go in September, October or Novemeber. Which month should we chose?

Hurrican season is from June 1st through Nov. 30th. Of the 3 months that you have stated I would choose Nov.. Sept. & Oct. are the most active of the 3 months.

I agree with Bob.....November is probably your best bet. We sailed last November and had a little rain, but nothing serious!

I have sailed the end of October and beginning of November with no issues. You would be towards the end of hurrican season. We had gorgeous weather both times.

The old hurricane rhyme is

June - too soon

July - stand by

remember September

October - all over

The only time I had a direct confrontation with a hurricane was in October. The storm's name was Pauline. "They" also said not to worry about hurricanes whose names began with a b or c. Well, then came Andrew. I don't hear that old piece of weather wisdom any more.

Also remember that even though the official hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, there have been hurricanes during the other half of the year.

Cruise insurance doesn't cover hurricanes. Most cruises continue and attempt to divert to areas less affected by the large storms. However, being in the Caribbean during a large hurricane can be like being in a mixing bowl with the beater on the other side. You still may feel it. Also remember that hurricanes can be very large storms with hurricane force winds many miles from the official location of the storm. (The official location is the eye of the storm.) Gale force winds extend beyond that and tornados can happen over a hundred miles away. No large modern cruise ship has yet sunk in a hurricane.

All that said, I frequently sail during hurricane season. The statistics game would tell you to pick November. Just remember that you can have great weather or horrible weather during any week of the year.

Work like a dog. Live like a pauper. Save all your money. Then Cruise!

also you get great rates! I have booked the galaxy out of Baltimore in sept. It sails all the way south to Belize. Could be a wild and crazy ride, but also could be absolutely calm.

In Nov. the rates start to climb a little bit.

Good rate, and willing to take a chance............LOL.. way to celebrate the 25th anniv.

We've done January twice, July once and are ready to give October a try. Hurricanes aren't like tornados and earthquakes where very little warning is provided, with a hurricane the forecasters have a pretty good idea where the path of the storm leads. That being said, I'd rather be floating around in the ocean on a beautiful ship than sitting back in the office!

Dont let the season scare you, you cannot control mother nature, and the captains are very good steering around problems. Just for you information though, the hurricane center in Denver recently upgraded their prediction for the season to 14 storms, the most ever predicted with 3 being severe. I say bring it on, I love being rocked to sleep!!

We had 2 of our 3 ports changed because of a hurricane and we didin't know the changes till they were made...it was kinda fun...we called it the mystery cruise

First ever European adventure on Splendour of Seas

Until last year I was one to avoid hurricane season also, then my whole family booked a cruise on Explorer in July, and right into Hurricane Claudette. The boat went right around it, and except for one rocky night when they were going around it, you wouldnt have even known, I am in the process of booking one for September right now.

Thirty-four of the storms arrived in October. Twenty-seven came calling in September and 13 were August storms.

By the time November rolls around, the ocean is cooling off and there is usually not enough heat to create a hurricane.

I would say November looks a lot better statistically.

I every year at the end of August or the first week of September. People think I'm crazy going during hurricane season but with the exception of a little rain. Last year there was a big hurricane in the area and the Captain reversed our itinerary for the week and we had absolutely beautiful weather. You should pick any month that you want. You're going to have fun regardless and any Captain will do anythning in their power to avoid any potential hurricanes. Have a great time!

Alsodoing a girls cruise Oct. 8/04 (10 of us)anyone sailed at that time and what was the weather like, only time we can go,most of us work together so our boss is away

We're booked on the Mariner the first week of September of this year - I'm not worried, as I grew up in Savannah, Georgia and have dealt with hurricanes before (most notably David and Hugo). We're also very flexible in that although we've booked the Eastern itinerary and would prefer it, we wouldn't be too disappointed if they have to alter our itinerary or even switch it to the western one for that week.

The only way I figure that we'll be cancelled is if a storm is hitting Port Canaveral when we're supposed to be boarding.

The rates were so good we couldn't pass them up, though!

I've found just the opposite with rates up in September, down slightly in October and the beginning of November, and the lowest between Thanksgiving and Christmas. You can usually get a very good cruise rate the week right after Thanksgiving!
